I once got stopped in Korat for jumping a red light, I disputed the fact which didn't make any difference, the officer still gave me a ticket to pay 400 baht. I know he was looking for a drink but I refused. I then sent the ticket to the authorities along with 200 baht. They then sent me back a rece...

Drinking Water
Where does the 'snobbery' come into the discussion by buying Singha water? The bottles of water that I purchase cost 5 baht per litre. A good test is to drink the water unchilled as I have to, Singha water has a very good taste, try some of the other water unchilled and you may get a shock!

Thai Attitude's to farrang
I know that there is a two-tier pricing system in Thailand, and I disagree with it as much as anyone, but I have found that in the Cha-Am market it operates that the locals pay one price and the Bangkok Thai's down for the weekend pay another more expensive price, I always pay the same as my thai wi...

How its the weather in Hua Hin in September
When it does rain, it can be chucking it down in Hua Hin, and not a cloud in the sky in Cha-Am, brilliant sunshine, then 15 minutes later the reverse happens.

childrens club for 5yr +
I was at the Anantara Hotel yesterday and saw that they have facilities for looking after children, they have a room (with a 'minder') near to the beach with games, tv etc. whether it is available to non residents or not I do not know.

PUT YOUR BLOODY HELMETS ON!!
I do not see many damaged motorcycle baskets, so I suppose that even the cheap helmets protect to some degree. I saw a farang today, riding a motorcycle carrying a baby with one arm, no helmet, (sorry helmet in basket) no shirt, thought he was very clever, what a dipstick!!

Thai sim cards for short term visiters
You can purchase sim cards from mobile telephone shops for 300 baht which includes 300 bahts worth of calls (1-2-1). International calls can also be made using 009 prefix then country code at I think 9 baht per minute, I have just purchased such a sim card for my friend, and it works fine.

New Members...introduce yourselves!
Hi All,
I have lived around Hua Hin and Cha-Am for the past nine years, I generally have a good idea of what can and can't be done, thai etiquette etc. so hopefully I will be able to advise our readers on certain subjects from time to time.
Glyn.

The land of NO U-turns!!
Two favourite situations to look out for, 1. you park your car and look in your mirrors to see whats coming up behind, you open your door and bang, motorbike coming from the front driving the wrong way. 2. you are looking to come out of a side street on to the main road, you look right to see your g...
