I rather like the one opposite All-in Hua Hin. There are actually two, but I go to the one on the right - as you sit in All-in. Friendly staff, lovely wash with the ubiquitous head massage, cut and blow dry for around 100 baht. His nibs can have a snack and a tipple opposite while I'm being pampered...

Yes, it has been covered here before, but I can't remember where. If you're not worried about dosh, how about doing some voluntary work. Dawn at the Dog Rescue Centre is desperate for help, and (if you'd like to try your hand at teaching) there are some rural schools, outside Hua Hin who would reall...

Georgy Porgy - in answer to your question - No. I don't feel bad leaving a 20 baht tip. That's about the norm (or used to be) here for good service. A lot of Thais would either not tip at all (it's not really done) or just leave 5 or 10 baht - so I think I'm being quite generous. But using that wond...

Bendix, welcome to the site, and it's nice to hear that you had a lovely meal. I am, however, a tad surprised at the size of tip you gave. At most of the places we eat at in HH (which is not very often) we tip around 20 or 30 baht. I do hope that the Thai places don't start expecting overly large ti...

Seems like your experience of Hua Hin hasn't been particularly enjoyable. Especially as you decided to tell your tales on three threads. :? I hope your next visit is a more pleasant one (if you decide to come back) - there really are some nice bars and restaurants in Hua Hin and they're not all rip-...

I'm not a financial guru, which is why I leave it up to the professionals. You do have to commit yourself to five years, and, obviously, the markets could go up or down. This is not a short-term programme, I see it more as my retirement fund - and I have a few years to go before I get to the old cod...

We used to have our money in an off-shore account, getting pretty much nothing. Switched it to another account offered by Friends Providence, but controlled by a whizz in Bangkok and, yes, it does cost you money, but when you get a return of 40% a year - I'm not complaining. No, I don't work for the...

Housing developments. The amount of vegetation being erased on the Pala U road will only result in more flooding in downtown Hua Hin. But, hey, I don't live in Hua Hin, so it doesn't affect me - I do, however, care about what's happening to the (ever expanding) town. My biggest concern now is the su...

Some of the lovely Thais are totally screwed up (sorry about the pun) about sex. I had an interesting conversation with the daughter (single, aged 35) of our landlady when talking about having kids - I don't have, and have never wanted any. She had a look of total horror on her face and said 'So you...

I think it merely boils down to the "If......., then.....' train of thought. Consequential thinking. The Thais, bless their cottons, just don't do it. It's certainly evident in their driving techniques, but also in other areas of their lives. "If I tailgate the car in front, I might hit it...

It's a sad fact of life that the more 'rich' farang (or Thais) that move into an area, the more low-life criminals also move in. Hua Hin is suffering from a massive influx of ex-pats. I've been living in Thailand for over 10 years and visited Hua Hin 15 years ago. It really was a quiet, sleepy, fish...

The really sad thing is that people in the UK read this trash and get the wrong idea about Thailand and Thais. The scorpions in Thailand (and we have plenty in our house) are no more dangerous than a wasp in the UK - unless you have an allergic reaction to stings. You're absolutely right Dawn, this ...

Have you found a good home for your dog?
If I didn't have four Thai dogs already, I would be knocking loudly on your door. Retrievers are wonderful, loyal pets and need a loving home. Please don't send him to a shelter. He deserves better...
