Re: Coronavirus (Covid-19) News

Totally agree with DM & PH. We watch the BBC evening news every evening, and are beginning to think we shouldn't. We're fed up with hearing about not enough PPE for people dealing with Covid-19 patients, depressing videos of those who have lost loved ones with/because of the virus (there's a big...

Re: Cancer - no longer the bogeyman?

DM: Thank you hugely for your informative and interesting reply. BTW You look great! My sister's lymphoma is just a little lump on her inner thigh - far away from a lot of important bits. She's going for her first session of radiotherapy on Monday and the wonderful NHS feel that they can kill off th...

Re: Cancer - no longer the bogeyman?

Oakdale: It depends on what type of cancer it is. Thanks to the NHS, my twin is getting rapid treatment with the best equipment. She's starting her first zap with radiotherapy on Monday and (hopefully) 15 days later it will be gone. DM: How does the radiotherapy affect you physically? Does it make y...

Re: Cancer - no longer the bogeyman?

Thank you, DM. My twin sister is currently going through the process of having some lymphoma zapped with radiotherapy. They've caught it early and the quality (and speed) of care from the NHS has been brilliant. Her future is looking bright. It sounds like you're coping well with the treatment, and ...

Re: Thai officials believe 12 boys missing in cave are alive

But I think possibly that they should legally have sought parents' permission though, and keeping it from them (as they seem to have done) was not in any way the correct choice...The result was fine, the best; whether the secrecy was justified I'm not sure. I see what you say, but the parents are n...

Re: Thai officials believe 12 boys missing in cave are alive

It's an amazing rescue by the expert team of foreign divers who organised the evacuation of the boys. It's such a pity that the Thai press do not acknowlege those divers. The passive tense (in most of the reports), which I teach it to my students, is normally used when you don't know, or don't care ...

Re: Helicopter crash

If it is a Cessna-182 (as the report states) then it ain't a chopper. I just wonder if the reporter thinks that the word 'chopper' is used for any military flying equipment. :? The Thai record for helicopter crashes is pretty dire. Whenever I hear one flying relatively low, I head for the nearest ta...

I seriously thought that this story would not have a happy ending. I'm so glad to have been proven wrong. What a huge relief for the parents.

^ I totally agree. I've been following this news since it first broke in Bangkok Post. Goodness knows what heartache the parents are going through just waiting for some news. My fingers are firmly crossed for some good news tomorrow.

Re: Bomb disposal squad finds device near soi 6 Hua Hin

Many years ago in Nakhon Pathom a bomb was found at the Social Security office not far from our house. There was a lot of activity and the cops were called. One of the cops was encouraged by the local press to lift the lid of the box for a photo shoot. Boooom!!!

Re: Trouble sleeping after Japanese food

Evening, Pete. I'm still wide awake too, but I haven't eaten Japanese food. I'm wondering if it's the event rather than the food. If I have a good evening with good company, and chat about a lot of things I find I'm still 'buzzing' when it's time for shut eye and can't sleep.

Re: Hundreds of foreigners/teachers arrested in nationwide operation X-Ray Outlaw Foreigner

So there are government schools employing people illegally? That doesn't surprise me in the least. I know of an American couple who worked for a school with a royal name, and the agency who employed them wouldn't get them a work permit. They, with permission from the school, had to skip out of the c...

Re: Australian man 'stabbed in chest' in Thailand club

... he had no reason groping her. Even if harsh, he got the lesson he deserved ... Speaking from a female perspective: a pinch on the bottom is not a grope, she is (I guess) a young lady that is used to being groped on a regular basis. She wouldn't have minded - it's part of the job. If he had stab...

Re: Pigeon Pie anyone?

Can the scrawny feral ones be fattened up with a bit of corn? I just think that the Thais are missing a trick here when it comes to getting rid of a nuisance, and at the same time having some meat to eat with their rice. It must surely be better for them than the artificially fattened chickens that ...
