Suay! Suay!

Interesting discussion of compliments and anti-compliments. I can understand the differences in being candid (Thai) versus being PC (Farang). What totally floors me is when our country-boy, very unsophisticated Thai gardener tells me "suay" when I go outside dressed for work in very Wester...

Dick's Office

Norm,

Dick's Office is the name of a bar, and it has a sign. It's on the left as you come up from PK Road.

IT-Net Fan

I'm a fan of IT-Net, too. Lately, I've had a few laptop and desktop problems. His prices for hardware are the same as thanni.com. Ton has fixed them quickly (same day or next day) at a very reasonable price. Plus he and his wife are a lot more friendly and customer-oriented than the one next to Hale...

Seeking Violin or Accordian Player

I'm looking for a musician who plays accordian or violin to play at a local event tonight (!). Yes, a bit late, I know. Please PM me if you are interested or know somebody who might be.

... and your daughter lives in Thailand? On Vancouver Island? or...?

One of my students has a cracked iPhone, and he says it works just fine, albeit a bit slow.

Kellogg's Corn Flakes in California

Kellogg's is the gold standard of corn flakes, IMO. In S. California, one can buy a 340g box for $5. About 165B for a box. Looks like there is a little (well-earned?) profit involved.

Thai Dogs Are Wonderful!

VS, You've described our Thai dog perfectly - he eats and sleeps, he flops around the house from place to place during the day, he's hugely affectionate and fun-loving, and I believe he'd fight with his life to protect us. In fact, his furious barking several weeks ago alerted us to something that c...

escalator maintenance

I believe they alternate direction of the escalators each month so that the parts wear evenly in both directions. I'm not an escalator expert, but this seems like a logical explanation to me.

Vista in Thai

I just had a Thai language module installed in vista. It works fine in MS Office. When it comes to printing though (HP printer), the vowels above and below the consonants print with a circle in the middle. I've asked our tech support about this, and he hypothesizes that the Thai language converters ...

Took my clothes to Terry's dry cleaners on Saturday. They were ready today, but I didn't pick them up yet. Prices: suit jacket and skirt, each 80 baht. Say what? They'd be about 500 baht for both pieces in Hawaii. It is located S. of the police station, on the ocean side of Petchkasem. It even says ...

Spot is the first cat I've ever had in my life. Maybe I didn't do such a good job raising him.

It sounds like I should open my chakras AND buy a water pistol.

OF COURSE, my preference is that the two cats become friends and live here happily ever after.

Thanks for your advice.

"Dogs have masters, cats have valets"

This is a quote I've seen before, but can't attribute it. I was trying to add a little humor to what's been a difficult situation with two cats. Instead of dropping Spot off in a distant location (which I never suggested, BTW), I'm trying to find a good home for him. A one-cat home. If any cat exper...

Cat needs new valet

Our 2-year old male cat named Spot needs a new valet. We have recently adopted a very young female soi kitty, and after a month, Spot has not gotten any more accommodating. So, Spot must go. He's neutered and vaccinated, very low-key and laid back, except for accepting a new kitty. Simply put, Spot ...

Another Suggestion

That's so discouraging, Mr. T. I'm glad to hear your family is OK, but the loss and the replacement hassles are a pain. One thing I've done is to scan important documents and then park the files in a password-protected place on the Internet. This way, even if my computer is stolen, I still have the ...
