Re: Billy's Bar closes forever

Hi DSB, that's cool, thank you, I'm happy if you just pass on my message to Billy whenever you chance to see him, or maybe forward by e-mail. If Billy wishes so, he can find my contact details easily enough when googling amsterdam resort khao lak. Nice to hear Berny is still around. His place was th...

Re: Billy's Bar closes forever

Hi Billy, Hope you are reading this, I know of no other way to contact you. I am one of the people you got to know during your early Hua Hin days: Kees, Amsterdam Bar. I arrived December 1994, and you followed roughly one year later. End of an era, surprises me that there are not more posts in this ...

Re: Mini golf

I can confirm what Roel posted, it was South of the present Market Village, at about 40% of the distance to the fly over, on the land side. In 1999 or 2000 the place was demolished. I spent quite a bit of time there. Expats meeting up there established a mini golf association which was quite active,...

Re: When was your first visit to Hua Hin?

1992. Backpacking around Asia, I tried to avoid touristy places. But the Lonely Planet of the time said Hua Hin was more like a beach resort for Thai people, so I decided to give it a try. Because that day I was a bit feverish, I had forgotten to select a guesthouse from the guide book, and I allowe...

Re: Willy's Restaurant

Willy wrote history in Hua Hin. If I am correct, his first business was the Zuri Bar at Naresdamri Road, occupying a small space roughly where Maitai beergarden is now. Later he moved to what was later to become Bei Otto, after that Sunhine, also at Naresdamri Road. Then he started what is now maybe...

Re: Willy's Restaurant

RIP Willy. I will never forget the fun filled nights when Willy was in the Amsterdam Bar, the business I had in Hua Hin from 1994 till 1999.

Two other places that come to mind are the Australian sports bar (Digger's rest) at the Damnoenkasem road, and the Nightmarket cafe at Chomsin road, where the Kiwi corner used to be.
Nice mind game, trying to get back into time.

Two places that aren't mentioned yet are the Clipper Club at Dechanuchit Road, and a place named Glenn's at the corner of Damnoenkasem and the road leading alongside the Sofitel. Glenn was a somewhat overweight guy from the UK. Now that I am typing this, I remember Ruji's bar , at the same road. Ruj...

I'll also dig into my memory a bit. From 1992 till 1994 I lived in Bangkok and spent most weekends in Hua Hin, and from 1994 till 2000 I lived in Hua Hin, where I ran the Amsterdam Bar/Usaah Guesthouse in Soi Kanjanomai. In 2000 I moved to Khao Lak where I built a resort that I am still running. I w...

Hello Andy, You are Andy from London, is that right? Always wonderful to stumble across long lost acquaintances in cyberspace. If you really are who I think you are, you have a lot of stories to tell about the Hua Hin of the eighties and the nineties. Take care, Kees.

Roel is right.........

It might be a good idea though, to put up a sticky thread requesting old photos. I would figure people who visited Hua Hin as tourists would be more likely to have them than expats or ex expats. In due course then a historical photo album could be added to HHAD.

ex owner amsterdam bar

Hello Hua Hinians, Some of the longer established Hua Hin expats might still remember me. My offline name is Kees, and I used to run an establishment called the Amsterdam Bar/Usaah Guesthouse in Soi Kanjanomai, from 1994 till 1999. After that, in 2000, I briefly operated a place called Cafe Amsterda...
