All the cards are stacked in the Juntas favor, even if another party were to surprisingly win, they have to follow the current government's plan for the next 20 years.

Re: New Election Rules Designed to Keep Junta in Power
It does seem unfortunately that this and future elections are designed to keep the status quo here in Thailand with the same military government. Most Thais I have spoken too are not happy with the current situation, so there could be problems in the near future.. Even in countries like the UK , the...

Re: Parcels sent to Thailand
Just an update on my recent parcels ( both tracked) both arrived. I complained about the import tax, filled in a form at the post office, they sent the parcel back to Bangkok to be reviewed. Anyway I ended up not paying anything , so that was good. There still seemed a lot of confusion with the post...

Re: Parcels sent to Thailand
Yes 1500 baht is the threshold for customs, I was told by the post office. They also said if you could include the receipt for the goods outside or inside the parcel, that might help. We have only ever received 3 parcels in Thailand from overseas and all have been charged duty. So i unfortunately fo...

Parcels sent to Thailand
I would just like to say what a waste of time it is having parcels delivered to Thailand from overseas. My mother sent 2 parcels here in December. Neither ever arrived. She unfortunately didn't have them tracked, so whoever took them, got away with it. Last month she and my sister have both sent par...

Re: Why is the Thai Baht so strong?
Makes you wonder why other countries would buy things like rice and A4 paper ( apparently Thailands biggest export) from Thailand anymore. Surely it's cheaper to buy from other south east Asian countries now.

Re: Why is the Thai Baht so strong?
On a side note....Thai shops selling imported stuff have "forgotten" to adjust the the prices down to reflect the lower import prices.....See that is a real surprise... [/quote] Totally agree, but it's also farangs selling imports at inflated prices in their shops / restaurants etc...

Re: Price comparison FOOD - Hua Hin/U.K
we were in Pattaya last week for a few days, food and alcohol so much cheaper there. Great full English breakfast including tea or coffee, orange juice etc only 99 baht. Alcohol in bars ( not that I am a big drinker) on average about a third less than HH. Sure Pattaya has some seedy areas, but there...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?
Wow......glad I have no inclination to drive in Malaysia! These topics about driving accidents and deaths in Thailand are becoming repetitive though. How many times do we have to all suggest somone do something about teaching, enforcement and how we do things "at home"......no-one is list...

Re: Some Bangkok Embassies to stop Certification of Income Letters
The way the UK £ is going that will probably be nearly £25 grand.. Haha, anyone with that kind of money just sitting around doing nothing every year is very lucky 😳.. ... Lucky? Or for much of their working lifetime did they live beneath their means, saving and investing the difference? Thank you S...

Re: Some Bangkok Embassies to stop Certification of Income Letters
I renewed my retirement visa on Thursday. They made it very clear that next year they will only accept proof from my Thai bank that I have had 800k on deposit in an account solely in my name for 3 months. They will not accept any income statements or other evidence. The way the UK £ is going that w...

If it's a retirement visa it's easy. If it's a marriage visa there's still a lot of paperwork.
Thanks , hopefully i can get the Retirement Visa instead next year then..
