Re: Why Do Expats Remain - Why Do They Come Back?

I can't agree with the previous post more. As a US citizen, going back to the US for health reasons is a nonstarter. Totally impossible to get the same level of health care available here back in the US. The cost would bankrupt me in the US whereas I can pick and choose the level and cost of health ...

Re: Effect of enforcing Thai motoring legislation

A long time ago when Helmets became required in California --- after the first-year injuries and medical claims reduced significantly despite the protests to wearing them. Those MC injuries cost the public in the cost of services rendered so it isn't just the injured that pay but everyone.

Re: Effect of enforcing Thai motoring legislation

HO, HO, HO; Merry Christmas everyone. Fat chance any of this will happen as 90% of the riders in my area are not wearing helmets and the police just ignore it when they pass by.

Re: Information notice regarding postal items that may be applicable for customs duty.

They did the above to me when I had a partial dental plate (that was repaired in the US) and insured for $1,500 (because that would have been the cost of a new plate were it lost). they put a ridiculous amount of customs duty (over $800 US) and demanded that I go to Prechuab customs office and pay i...

Re: New to Forum - moving plans

Lots of good suggestions here. I lived in Hua Hin for 4 years then moved south 12 years ago to rural Khanom. I enjoy the rural laid-back atmosphere with not the development or city congestion of Hua Hin. Didn't realize how much it was developed there when returned a few months ago for a short visit ...

Re: Gourmet Market @ BluPort

In order to get a Robinsons you would have a Central Plaza Mall which would also have a Topps market in it too. Probably too many competing malls with Market Village and Blueport both there.

Re: Wise formerly Transferwise

Just today booked money from my US account to my Thai account and won't be available until July 6 because they say they won't receive it until then. When I check on my US bank account it will go out of my account in 1 day. It's got to be FATCA that is holding things up because someone is sitting on ...

Re: Wise formerly Transferwise

Anyone have any idea why Wise had stretched out the payment to now 6 days for me when months ago it used to be about 15 minutes?
I get a bunch of goblygook answers from Wise when asked.

Re: Climate change could force Thailand to move its capital

They would certainly be better off spending money to move the capitol than wase it on the Land Bridge Boondoggle. At leae they would get something useful rather than two unused ports and an unused rail line.

Re: Hua Hin water shortage

If you have a tank and mount it above round the tank needs to have nontransparent walls in order to inhibit the growth of algae. I discovered this when I purchased a tank that looked like a DOS tank but was half the price. When it was delivered, I noticed I could see light through the walls. It didn...

Re: Customs cost of international parcel

It all depends on how Customs classifies it, and you won't have much say in that other than send an invoice with it that clearly states what the product is and its value. When they call you and ask for payment you will then know how much it will cost. Good Luck.

Re: Health insurance required for all retirement visas?

I have an OA but since this health insurance mess has been implemented, after paying off immigration for the first year, I use a Visa Broker and have no problems renewing my annual visa with much less paperwork and requirements to provide to them plus eliminating the 1.5-hour trip to Immigration fro...
