Re: Banyan Residence and Surrounding Area

I have been in Thailand for over 10 years and have yet to see the appreciation in property values that your wanting. Do the math first. Compare the cost of buying vs the very low cost of renting. It is not like the U.S. where I once purchased a house for $46,000 years ago that is now worth 1.4 milli...

Re: Banyan Residence and Surrounding Area

(from a fellow U.S. citizen) I think you could get a whole lot more house and property for 9.9 million baht. You need to spend some time there and look around. Just looking on internet is not the best way to find a property. I spent half that much on a property there and think it was in a better loc...

Re: Good, reasonably priced wine

Too bad we can get Two buck Chuck wine over here. That is wine from Trader Joe's that is good and very cheap. Now it is $2.50 (80 baht) a bottle in California and $3+ in T.J. stores outside California.

Re: Most practical and least expensive way to transfer large funds to Thailand?

My experience using Bangkok Bank vs Transferwise is that Transferwise is better and can transfer directly to any bank in Thailand instead of only Bangkok Bank. Transactions are cheaper using Transferwise than Bangkok Banki. What I like best is that Transferwise tells you up front what the fees will ...

Reply to comment: "How many times did this happen to you ? Why are you thinking that he cheated customers for a long time ? Any proof ? Easy to accuse....did you never made a mistake ?" Did you read my post? Teller tried to show me that he was correct and could not preform the math necessary to do s...

Re: Usual cheating at the till, Big C Hua Hin

I went to the Post Office yesterday to mail an EMS package to the U.S. Bill was 1,622 Baht. I gave teller 2,000 baht and he slapped down on the counter 278 baht in change. I immediately protested the amount was not correct. Teller could not even add it himself and tried to show me it was correct. Th...

Re: Free Bus Transfer Between Suvarnabhumi – Don Muaeng

What are all you talking about with the Taxi Que at either airport. Just go up to the top level (check in level) and go outside and grab a taxi that has just dropped off their fair. I do it all the time and get out of either airport quite quickly. At swampy you have to specify they use the meter or ...

Re: Free Bus Transfer Between Suvarnabhumi – Don Muaeng

There is a free shuttle bus between Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang that operates from around 6 am (could be 5am but not sure) until 1 am daily (used to be 12pm but I think it is now 1am). On at least a half hour schedule. All you need do is show your flight reservations and they will log you and put you...

Re: Swimming pool operating costs

If you have to ask you can't afford it! Swimming pools can be lots of fun if you take care of them yourself. Fortunately you in Hua Hin have lots of pool shops to consult with.

Re: Cervical neck support pillows

I have several of those pillows around my house. Have purchased mostly at at Tesco and one at Home Pro. Look for the "Therapudic" Pillows. They usually have at least one brand or style there.

Re: Comparing different places in Thailand

Gosh, get out of the big city with all the traffic and congestion. Why are you not considering some places out and away from all that congestion? I do enjoy driving down the road here where I live in the south between Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat a great deal. Lots of deserted beaches and roa...

Re: A pretty realistic article about Thailand retirement cost

Oh yes and as one mentioned you always have to figure on U.S. Taxes will take a big bite out of your income and investments annually. Because of some unexpected capital gains in my investments my U.S. Tax bill was over $8,000 this past year. You got to love paying taxes when you get little or no ben...

Re: Animal-rights groups urge Hua Hin expats to save dogs from possible slaughter

If the animal rights groups care so much about the stray dogs in Hua Hin they should come down from their ivory towers and collect them so THEY can "save" them. Hua Hin has the worst dog problem in any city in Thailand that I have been too. I got attacked many times on my morning runs there. Where I...

Yes, its time to get back on topic. Years ago this same thing happened on this forum and a human disaster resulted. Can't we just put our petty grumblings aside and stay on topic?
