@bigideas I definitely understand your point about GCSEs and A-Levels being a bit dull and useless. To the best of my knowledge the IGCSE has equivalence to a standard GCSE, and comparing what STW kids did vs the students in my British school, the STW kids compare pretty well. The information I got was that the IGCSEs would help students get into university outside of Thailand. As to university in...

The fees here are getting ridiculous frankly, though the poorer students are being offered loans that they essentially only pay if they're earning enough, so it's unlikely to drive anyone to poverty, but it does mean that people caught in that middle territory are going to face difficulties.

Thailand needs English undoubtedly if it wishes to be competitive, but I think the more important objective is getting class sizes down from the present ludicrous 50-ish to a more manageable level.
