that's why I recommend Siem Riep which is RELATIVELY clean, safe and civilised + Angkor Wat as a bonus

Haved lived in Cambodia for 6 months
This has been discussed at length many times on this and the others forums that the average living standards (ie not to eat a crap local food and not to stay at a stinky shack) cost more in Cambodia than in Thailand

How about opening US DOLLARS fixed deposit account in nearby Cambodia? Canadia Bank (the biggest one) gives 4,75% interest rate for a non-resident clients. Relatively reliable...

I know some long stayers who are already going to leave Hua Hin and move to somewhere else in Thailand. Hua hin has been becoming too noisy, crowded and expensive...

Just go to Sam Roi Yot Marine National Park, 60 km away to the south from Hua Hin. This is one of the best area in Thailand to observe shorebirds. By the way now is an especially good time for a bird watching cause of migration to there birds from Siberia etc.
