Re: Swimming in the sea in Hua Hin

Many years ago there were nets that cordoned off the Marriott and Chiva Som - possibly The Hyatt as well. They went in place during the jellyfish season. At low tide you can still see the anchors if you know where to look. Those nets havn't been in place for years now. I can still remember tripping...

Oooh, I can see people collect all sorts of jellyfish with bare hands to get the money. :tsk:

Here is a map that is updated on an ongoing basis. It seems Rama II road was reached by the water today. http://maps.google.fr/maps/ms?hl=fr&gl=fr&ie=UTF8&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=203278216882407399461.0004af623e23c9dccde11&t=m&vpsrc=6&ll=13.800741,100.515976&spn=0.3200...

Re: Hua Hin's tourism is over 70% domestic

Don't forget that Cha Am district actually starts just after the airport tunnel which means that several large resort hotels that are technically in Cha Am are pretty much part of the Northern side of Hua Hin city. Yes, and they look quite isolated to me when I pass by on the road to HH. Really in ...

Re: Hua Hin's tourism is over 70% domestic

Thanks everyone for your responses! Interesting information and additional stats. So why do German's like Cha Am so much? I know Cha Am is cheap and German's are really tight and that, but that can't be the only reason can it? No idea. It's horrible. I am so glad I based myself in HH the first time ...

Re: Hua Hin's tourism is over 70% domestic

Among the foreigners, the top 10 arrivals were from Finland (44,480), Norway (41,652), Sweden (37,657), Germany (34,947), United Kingdom (28,613), Denmark (20,767), the Netherlands (17,848), Australia (11,133), Switzerland (10,066) and Russia (9,720) I would be curious to know why HH is so striking...

Re: Swimming in the sea in Hua Hin

Thanks, pcscct. That's a shame. Also, it seems there are not life guards on the beach that would have a medical kit handy to help if someone does get stung. That reminds me an anecdote I exprerienced last week: I was sitting in one of the many restaurants built on the beach left of where the horses ...

Re: hua hin floating market!!

It's all aimed at the Thai Bangkok based visitor Thanks for the reply. Interesting. That reminds me that it seems Plearn Wan is also aimed at Thai tourists, though I did enjoy it for an hour or so. It provides some nice photo opportunities and opportunities to sample Thai sweets and other food that...

Re: hua hin floating market!!

Someone compared this to Plearn Wan, but I think it's not quite the same. Plearn Wan is explicitly maketed as an open air museum, as something that recreates a HH of how it appearently has been in previous times (50's). Whereas it seems absurd to me to dig a big hole in the middle of nowhere and fil...

They have a cue half the normal lenght that you can use where the wall, the column or other punters are too close to the table.

Re: Marina Bar

Sure, and I did move on as there are many nice bars in HH. Was just curious as excactly this bar where I had been several times last year was the only bar I came across that was shut all week last week. I did not drink so much there last year that it would have enabled them to retire from business! ...

Re: Bars packed with people

... oh, I forgot to mention: Another drawback of the bigger number of people now in the bars is that it has become more difficult to find an available pool table. Unfortunately, pool tables are not a close function of the number of punters!

Re: Swimming in the sea in Hua Hin

I wonder if the tourism authority or whoever is in charge is doing something about the jellyfish problem. For one of the main mainland beach resorts in Thailand, where the beach and being able to swim in the sea is the main draw for tourists, the jelly problem seems to me quite a significant issue. ...

Marina Bar

What happened to Marina bar on Poonsuk road? When I was in HH last year, it was a really nice place with very friendly staff and a live band almost every evening. Everytime I passed by last week it was closed.
