Apparently, it was some "leuk kreung" rich kid volunteering at the park that caused the fracas and has now left the position.

Why Thais get triggered when westerners say “Ni Hao” to them?
Is using Chinese greeting “ni hao” (你好 or hello) on Thais by Westerners considered a racist move? The question was fiercely debated since yesterday when a viral video showing a national park advisor in Krabi province telling a Russian couple that their vacation on an island is over after were found ...

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I just tried, set Nord to UK and opened iPlayer in Brave browser and it worked first time (I don't have any third-party adblockers running, Brave does it by default).

Re: Open a bank account without an address
You need a rental contract for the place you're staying and a copy of the ID card of the owner. But even then, it may not be possible without a non-immigrant visa. The banks have cracked down on foreigners opening accounts recently: viewtopic.php?t=42630

Re: Looking for a new tablet
The problem now is that we have so many devices, whereas before it was just one, so yes, all those chargers are unnecessary, but that was just one aspect. We don't even use the one that came with the tablet, as it charges much faster with the one that came with the phone! But this is only doable bec...

Re: The AI (artificial intelligence) thread
OpenAI spends millions to process polite phrases such as "Thank You" and "Please" with ChatGPT For all its advanced features, running AI is considerably expensive, necessitating extensive capital for the underlying hardware and power consumption. It turns out that engaging in ca...

Re: Looking for a new tablet
Aside from price, the reason I tend to avoid Samsung these days is that they appear to be going down the Apple route of using non-standards, charging extra for essentials such as cables/chargers, taking away useful functions/ports, and trying to lock users into their ecosystem. Though to be fair, mo...

Re: Looking for a new tablet
The tablet arrived yesterday So what was it in the end? Redmi Pad SE, 8GB memory, 256GB storage, 11" screen, 8,000 mAh battery, standard USB port. The CPU is not high-end, but you wouldn't expect it for that price, and we don't need it for our uses, which are mainly TV when traveling, reading,...

Re: Looking for a new tablet
The tablet arrived yesterday, its a serious piece of kit for the money. The mrs got it one one of those flash sales for 5,200, the equivalent spec Samsung is almost double. It is lightweight and has a great screen for reading, already downloaded the latest Nat Geo and a few books on to it. Impressed...

Re: Hua Hin Motorcycle Taxi Driver Arrested For Egg Attack On Tourist
Regular taxis have lost a lot of business to the likes of Grab and Bolt; and have you ever asked a Grab driver what % of his fare he actually receives? A taxi driver's lot is not an easy one. They deserve it as far as I'm concerned. Regular taxis in tourist towns such as Hua Hin are scammers - they...

Re: The Wine Thread
In "Today's Thai/HH Wine Market" , how much does a mid-range/"Decently Drinkable" white wine cost you (not restaurant prices). In turn, what (if you can get now) does a case cost at the local vineyard (which I enjoyed a visit to years past)? A decent bottle of wine here will cos...

Re: The Android Thread
Tried Bitdefender which didnt fix, neither did CCleaner which is also subscription now ... so ended up using AI to help me clean it manually. Seems like there are no decent free anti-malware/adware apps any longer.

Re: The Android Thread
What are people using as a malware scanner and cleaner for Android these days? Malwarebytes has gone paid subscription, so cant use that to attempt a clean on a friend's phone that is plagued by popups.

Re: Rail Travel From Hua Hin Thread
You do realize those prices are for third class where you get a skinny wooden bench and no a/c? Even at my age, I'd want a bit more comfort when traveling!
