Self explanatory this one. I've put it in the Thai category in case there were and questions regarding jobs in Bangkok, visa runs to Laos, offshore bank accounts etc.

The Sofitel is about the best place in town, you may get a good deal if you book early over the internet. Most hotels give better rates for internet bookings than regular walk ins.

The government are always changing the rules, it looks like they're constantly striving to make it harder for us to stay here so in 6 months it could be different again.

Not sure about retirement visas but look at the website mentioned above, they seem to be upto date with their information.

Baanduangkaew is in Khao Takiab (about 3km south of town). There are a few local restaurants but no bars there (apart from whats in the Resort). I think the beaches are nicer at Khao Takiab but its a lot quieter and all the lively places are in the center of town. I take it you've already seen their...

Hi Jimmy and welcome to the board.
I haven't personally stayed in the Marriott so can't rate it. The best in town IMO is Sofitel, close to the action also. Hilton is okay but I find it a little impersonal, just a big tower block really. All depends on what you're after.

City Beach Hotel / Resort ... same place. That is near the bars (2 min walk).

For a cheaper option: Baan Pak - soi bintabaht (bar street), Somm Wann - soi kanjanomai (next soi up), Euro guesthouse (near tanawit), Sand Inn - Poolsuk road.

Rooms range from 250 to 650 in these places.

Its quiet in the way of fewer tourists but there are still plenty of girlies so I don't imagine you'll be on your own for long

Weekend just gone was actually quite busy around the bars.

Hi, welcome to the board! I have never stayed at Anantara but from what I've seen of the place its definately 5*, beautiful reception area. Its located around 3-4km out of town so you'll need to get taxis into Hua Hin. Its rainy season now, so the mornings are fine and we usually get a daily downpou...

IMO it would be good to have such a highway to cut down the travelling time to BKK. I don't think it would impact HH to that extent as it will probably only save an hour on the journey. More business here can only be a good thing. Not sure if it will ever go ahead though, with the amount of unfinish...

Yes, Sofitel is pretty much the best hotel in the center of town. Anantara is also very nice, a little further out though (around 3-4km).
