Re: When was your last time outside Thailand?

Last August, when my father passed away. Used to be around two years between forays out, hard to say these days but will probably still be around twice a year as Mum is still around. However, to put time spent in Thailand into perspective,I've probably spent less than two months away in total over t...

Re: Aluminium Welding

Tend to agree with Chas. On a side note, not many autos have aluminium parts, am curious as to what this part and its function is? I've worked in aviation as well as NDT, plus held a welding inspectors licence so will advise that if it's just a cosmetic non-stressed part you're probably okay to go a...

Re: rats in the attic

Re pigeons. The old lady two doors down FEEDS the blighters so there is a swarm of the bl**dy vermin on the power lines, her house roof and surrounds. I got shouted at for shooting at them with a plastic pellet rifle; not that it worked, but it gave me some pleasure with my evening beers(I know, I k...

Re: rats in the attic

I beg to differ. Rats DO make an awful din at times, especially when they treat the ceiling space as a safe, dry haven most suited for mating dances and raising generations of siblings. Unfortunately my ceiling is gypsum board nailed to the crossbeams so almost no access. I finally resorted to rat po...

Re: Tips to keep an inordinate amount of birds away from hou

Spotted bird repellent spikes at HomePro last week; two sizes, one for pigeons and larger birds, another for the smaller species. Somewhere around 350 baht for 5 meters of the pigeon repellent variety. Under serious consideration at the moment.

Re: buying a car used

You'll certainly not get anything viable for less than 200,000 baht. European makes are generally cheaper on the secondhand market for the same age as their Japanese counterparts. The main reason for this is that the locals believe maintenance costs will be higher so tend to avoid them. It is not to...

Re: Thai national health insurance for foreigners

Roel as long as you contribute, up to 60, you will get the health benefit. After that they will not accept any contribution. You qualify for the pension once over 55. I believe if you start drawing the pension, you will not get the health benefits any more. I will find out soon enough as I will be g...

Re: Thai national health insurance for foreigners

Correct me if I'm wrong....but if you have a WP and pay taxes can't you use the the national health service here, thought you could. You need to be paying the social security deductions, for which you will be issued a card. You also have to nominate a hospital of your choice from a list they provid...

Re: Tethering mobile and data usage?

I've set my mobile so that it will only update apps if connected to wifi. It will not update if I'm using my data connection. Don't know if this applies to a tethered device, though.

Have you noticed........responses in this forum are mainly in the morning. Probably the Pensioners are drinking their Leo's (1 bottle per 3 hours) in the afternoon / early evening. Actually it's because I've fired up the office computer and get to reading HHAD only after I've perused the l...

Re: Do You Like Thai Food?

Thai food... a bit of a generalization, perhaps? The Southern is very different from the Northern, or Northeast - even the locals have problems coping with non-provincial food. For some people the sensitivity may be more psychological than physical, as in 'durian smells bad, so it may taste worse, i...

Re: Air card internet access

Doesn't matter about cost of air card. What matters costwise when running is the package you get with the SIM. It might just be a better option to get a cheap, skype-enabled smartphone; this would be practically guaranteed to work. I've seen many packages advertised so won't cost an arm and a leg. Y...

Click 'View this map in English Version'. http://www.thaiflood.com/ BTW the soi in front of the house in Bangkok was almost ankle deep l...

Re: Permanent residency quota for foreigners approved

Always has been 100 per country, but mainly nationals from the subcontinent are applying. PR applications were suspended for a couple of years, only now just being reinstated. I know many people who were waiting for applications to be re-opened. The benefits are less hoops to jump through re work pe...
