Re: Accomodation on the pier

Best of the pier conversions is probably the Sirima. We stayed there many times before getting our own place. Paid about B400 a night for an air-con en suite room with cable TV. Google it for the phone number.

Re: which passport to use ?

My missus has had two passports for 20 years now, the Thai one in her maiden name and the UK one in her married name. We use both when travelling to Thailand, the UK one for check-in and the Thai one for Thai immigration. No problems so far (touch wood!).

Re: Goodbye Hua Hin

You guys should have lived here when Immigration REALLY made life difficult for us foreigners. When I came here in the 1960s you had to buy a tourist visa before you arrived. That gave you 15 days in Thailand, which you could extend by another 15 days by sitting all day in the Immigration building o...

Hi Peter, See Richard Walker of Dick's Office bar in Soi 80 about a darts game. I know he's losing two players in late April and desperately needs to replace them. League matches are played every Tuesday, and there's a fun darts night for all-comers every Friday. And the best part of it is that you ...

As I've pointed out before, I DID try it (the 24-hr reporting), and Hua Hin Immigration told me it wasn't necessary. Which is good enough for me.

I'm on a retirement thingy (I'd call it a visa but the pedants would revolt), renewable every January, and I go to the UK each year in April and come back in October. I go to Immigration twice a year, in January to renew and in April to do the 90-day report and get a re-entry permit. The last time t...

Sounds like V Villas - a very expensive group of luxury bungalows across the road from the Sport Villa. They have a website.

Around 20 people send us Christmas cards from different parts of the world each year, and usually about 12-15 of them are delivered (we're in the Sport Villa on Petchkasem). Last year not one of them arrived. Enquiries at the HH post office were met with shrugs so I emailed the postal authorites in ...

The only problem we ever had was when my daughter became very ill after drinking bottled water. Now we only drink tap water -- after boiling it, of course. Bottled water IS tap water, and you don't know whether they've boiled it or not. Boil your own and stay safe. It even tastes better.

I'm sure a Friday night out in Norwich, at the pier or otherwise, would be no safer than in any other city in the UK.

I'm also on a retirement visa, and I attempted to report at Soi 102 the day after I arrived last October and nobody at Immigration wanted to know. I asked them again last week when I applied for a re-entry stamp, and again I was told it was not necessary. I know, however, of at least one person who ...
