Re: Renewal of compulsory car insurance in Cha-Am - help any
...Please avoid any personal opinions on whether it is advisable or not to deploy a certain cover - a list would be more helpful. Thanks. That advice was given in good faith, seeing as you do not seem to have been here very long and don't seem to understand the underlying culture ripples when you a...

Re: Which Pick-Up Truck?
BB, Bangkok Post had a comparison between the Ranger and the Colorado, saw it yesterday. Posting the link below: http://www.bangkokpost.com/auto/autoreview/293189/american-trucks The Ranger certainly looks tempting. Saw one on the road yesterday with red plates. Would be worth it if Ford have improv...

Re: Which Pick-Up Truck?
Don't think you'll be able to get an automatic with an engine smaller than 3.0 liters. Have just driven the 2WD Vigo manual 2.5 liter turbodiesel and I find it quite responsive. Seems to get good fuel economy too. Definitely much better than the 3.0 liter Tiger at work. Diesel is still much cheaper ...

Re: Police crackdown on use of phones, TV by drivers
They've been trying to implement the mobile phone thing for years. What happened was that people went to using earphones (the so-called hands-free at the time) and now those bluetooth thingies you stick in your ear. I myself got a wired hands-free for my Nokia 101 (yes, it was that long ago). Appare...

Re: Renewal of compulsory car insurance in Cha-Am - help any
20,000 baht for first party insurance is about the market standard. The local insurance companies refuse to continue with this after the car is 15 years old (the reason I sold my Saab turbo). You can get what is called '2+' for about half the price, it covers a bit more than third party but conditio...

Re: Renewal of compulsory car insurance in Cha-Am - help any
The company that does your standard insurance should be able to do it for you. I get mine posted to me once they're done. Note that once your car passes the seven-year mark, you'll have to pass the Thai version of the MOT before you'll even qualify to get the compulsory insurance (aka Por Ror Bor).

Many happy returns, JW. Getting old? I'm on the wrong side of fifty and still feel like a spring chicken. Almost. Will pop by when I'm next in town.

Re: What are your views on the 2nd hand car market?
Thebears I bought the last two cars off the secondhand market. I am more than happy with the savings over what I would have paid new. Fine, it does not come with a warranty. But if you have a fair amount of knowledge and the car has reasonable mileage and a record of maintenance up to the time of pu...

Re: Recommendations for new mobile
Terry I have the Nokia N97 mini which I am somewhat happy with; only problem being limited RAM. But I did get it because of the full QWERTY keyboard for easier text typing of emails and SMS's away from a computer. Looking at what your wife wants, you'll need at least: - wifi capability for video sky...

Re: Best deal for tyres in Hua Hin?
Just checked. Nitto NT650 Extreme touring. spec 215/65 R16, set of 4 set me back just short of 15,000 baht a year ago. They are passenger car summer tyres. The guy who changed the truck tyres (hhfarang, this is the proper English spelling, the 'i' in the tire is something that comes from across the ...

Nereus The place (Wongwien 22) is also called July 22nd Circle. I get my tyres from Saha Yang Tong(สหยางทอง). It's on Santiphap Road just off the circle. Lots of tyres shops around, but they give me the best deal. Unfortunately don't know how to post the image from Google street view. http://maps.go...

Re: Google Street View
Was in a small soi somewhere in Bangkok getting a tyre fixed when the Google car drove past. Probably walking pace, maybe a litte faster. Anyway, when they rolled out Bangkok Street view last month, I actually saw myself in one picture (though from the back only). Immortalised for life! They'll blan...

Re: Best deal for tyres in Hua Hin?
Remember to check on the long number of the tyres, as the last 2 digits correspond the year of manufacturing the tyres. First two numbers is week of manufacture. http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html Not a big fan of Bridgestones, they tend to get rather noisy after a while and don't have a lot ...
