Re: I think I need a border run?
Silly to do a border run for 3 measly days. Just pay 1500 at the airport for the 3 days fine, or 1900 at immigration for an extra week. They're both cheaper than a border run and have no consequences.

I did find an alternative though. I got one of these huge checkered bags . What is it you got? The picture link is dead. Wow, that was over 3 years ago... Time does fly at triple speed around these parts. I just take the car now if I have too much to carry, grown lazy :). Back then in 2014 it was o...

Re: Opening a bank account which bank?
METV these days gives unlimited entries within the validity time of the visa (6 months since date of issue). That means it can be used to stay in Thailand for 9 months (with border runs every 2 or 3 months and last entry on the date the visa expires+extension).

Re: Opening a bank account which bank?
This is Thailand, each region and each branch makes up its own rules. Keep trying different branches and you will eventually succeed. Showing a 1-year rental contract (whether legit or not...) will work in many cases. Sometimes a residence certificate will do the job. I have a Krungsri account (whic...

Re: The journey to a Yellow Book in Hua Hin
Okay, I think I figured it out. The Tessaban in HH is "special". It contains both an Amphur office (1st floor) and a Tessaban office (2nd floor). This was done apparently because the main Amphur is too far from town. So all this business is still happening at the Amphur, it just happens to...

Re: The journey to a Yellow Book in Hua Hin
Information in other places suggests that the yellow book and hot-pink ID card should be applied for at the Amphur, but here you've been saying that you got it at the Tessaban. Left me a little confused. Which is it?

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
In Thailand you become a tax-resident when you stay 180 days in a calendar year, regardless of your visa. Yes, tourists too. Obviously this isn't being enforced or effectively practiced, but it is the law. I think that you will find that the law basically states: "income derived in Thailand&qu...

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
Living here on a long stay non-immigrate visa does not make you a "resident" for tax purposes. In Thailand you become a tax-resident when you stay 180 days in a calendar year, regardless of your visa. Yes, tourists too. Obviously this isn't being enforced or effectively practiced, but it ...

Re: Thai travelling to Thailand on UK passport
To avoid delays you may want to show the UK passport to the airline and the expired Thai passport to immigration. Airline staff can be daft.

Sorry to digress from this very important debate, but does anyone know for sure whether immigration will be open this Monday? It's Constitution day or something.

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK?
Flew in on Nov 26. Landed 10:50, cleared a pretty busy immigration by 11:15, was in the bus stand with my checked baggage 11:20. I was shocked how efficient everything was. Might have been a freak alignment of stars. They did have a seat for me and a few more empty seats. Had to pay 50 baht to chang...

Re: Relocating for an extended period.
Have been to both Phillys and Cambodia several times. Visa easier in both 6+ months visa is no longer easy in Cambodia, they've been changing the rules constantly in the last few months and confusing the hell out of everyone. It is still possible to get 3 months over and over again, no questions as...

Re: Immigration requirement for lease agreements
The last time I needed a residence certificate I was in a similar situation. The solution was simple: I checked into a cheap hotel for a night (didn't even sleep there), and asked the manager to sign a statement saying that I am currently staying at the hotel. Immigration was happy with this and gav...

Re: 30 day tourists visa
30 day visa exempt entry is unlimited if you fly in. Limited to 2 entries per calendar year by land. As always, if you push it (e.g. 6 stamps a year), you may be questioned further, be asked to show 20k baht, or even get flat out denied. It depends on the number of stamps, the officer's mood, the wa...

Re: longer-term Thai visa for a Cambodian national
As for getting a fresh passport, I'd be worried that they could still retrieve the previous entries from the computer system based on name and date of birth..... 555 you are giving them way too much credit. I know people who used education visas for the allowed 4 years, then got a new passport and ...
