Re: How is Buckley Bar doing?

When it opened a year ago I didn't fancy it's chances - it looked far too sterile and soulless, and appeared to have more staff than customers. It felt in the wrong place for a bar like that.

I'm back in a couple of days - I won't be surprised if a Bar 4 Sale sign has appeared..

Re: Hua Hin Beach - Toilets/Showers

Don't know. A public toilet would be a first for Hua Hin (AFAIK) - the big question would be who is going to keep it clean..? As for showers - why? It can't be stated often enough that the sea at Hua HIn is dangerous. Aside from being none too clean, there are eddies and submerged rocks covered with...

Re: What did you Accomplish Before Settling in Thailand?

Hmmm, nothing wrong with actually achieving something in your lifetime. No indeed. I've had a pretty crazy life and am blessed with a rich tapestry of anecdotes to relate, but that doesn't mean a guy who's done a god forsaken boring job for half a century to support his (often ungrateful) family, d...

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin

Cant help thinking-- it is very unlikely that any tourist or short term resident whould not return another time because they could not get a drink on one of these days, but it is one more minor insult that would add to others and make them consider alternatives. Every full moon has religious signif...

Re: Buffets in Hua Hin

Each to their own, but heck! You are spending some money there.. Try venturing away from the international hotels and discover the sort of spread an ethnic Thai restaurant will lay on for that sort of cash. Don't worry that the spices might blow your head off - they can, but a taste for spicy food i...

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin

I gather that Makha Bucha falls on Feb 8th in 2020 and as that is a Saturday, Feb 10th is a public holiday in lieu.

- Will the bars be closed on the 8th, 10th - or both??

No obvious groups of any Male Guys, no violence, just party goers.
Mindful of what has happened in the past, were there any innocent looking young street urchins hanging around?

Re: Electric Cars

people will simply call a pod on their mobile and one will come to your house I can't believe this fantasy is still being touted..! Work it out - in cites around the world, traffic congestion is critical, yet here is an idea that would massively increase that congestion by clogging the roads with e...

What is stopping the development of hydrogen as a source of electrical power? To many vested interests in electric power? Gone to far in one direction to turn another way? ??? Re: Electric Cars

I don't want hydrogen, you'd have to buy it! I want an electric car with solar panels on the carport, what is stopping that? If you don't need a car to go very far, that might work in the tropics. But I'd look for someone who's actually done that (and isn't a solar panel salesman - or his mate..) -...

Re: Electric Cars

I remain deeply skeptical that EVs are the best way forward. Hydrogen is wonderfully clean, requires far less infrastructure, makes cars far cheaper to manufacture, and they have the same range as petrol driven vehicles. To power EVs we will need a huge number of new nuclear power stations and massi...
