Re: Outside drain pipe

Check the website 'thaidrain' dot com. I cannot remember if it is the same company as I used in Bangkok many years ago but they say they provide nationwide service, with rates starting from 1,500 baht (cannot remember if that was per blockage) but still a better option than breaking up my old drain....

Re: Allergies

My personal opinion is that too many foodstuffs being consumed are processed in some way so not all the good stuff is getting to you. Examples of this would be polished rice, where up to 90% of the minerals are removed, leaving only the starchy bits. Similarly, most french fries have the skin remove...

Re: Bangkok Dinner Cruise

Slightly off topic.. Over twenty years ago, one of the big bosses in my company fancied a river cruise for his birthday. He booked the whole boat and got the lot of us on it for the night..

Re: Bangkok Dinner Cruise

You're going for the cruise!! Food is typical buffet, unless you make a special order and pay for it before the cruise leaves. And make sure you book your seats beforehand, otherwise you will find yourself under deck, which will defeat the purpose of the cruise..

Re: Bangkok Dinner Cruise

Another thing to note. I noticed the really big boats operate out of ICONSIAM; the one I was on had a large tour group from Vietnam and it was a fairly rowdy crowd. I think the smaller boats operate out of River City. That being said, the cruise I was on had to go downriver instead of upriver (remem...

Re: Bangkok Dinner Cruise

I've been on one fairly recently, it left from ICONSIAM. A lot of the cruises operate from this pier, so I would suggest looking at their websites and finding the cheapest option. The one I went on had a disco and I got stuck right in front; great view, but hard on the eardrums. Not the easiest acce...

Re: Buy washing machine

Slightly off topic. Since you're only just coming here to stay, I'd seriously wait before investing in a washing machine. Many automatic coin operated laundries have sprung up, and the better ones do have front loaders with a high load capacity. And have driers too. Went there with my brother and wa...

Re: Buy washing machine

Alanr, I believe what my son has in the condo is an LG front loader model. Have not been there for a while so can't give you the specs. I would, however, check the size of the hole in the condo where the washing machine is expected to reside. In my son's case there was a cubby next to the sink with ...

Re: Buy washing machine

Homepro is a good idea, they periodically try and clear stock of a particular model when newer ones come out. We got something for my son's condo for almost 40% off, it is a washing machine after all.. It does help if you speak Thai, as they will try to sell you a pricier one if you only speak Engli...

Re: The AI (artificial intelligence) thread

PS - I'd consider a medical operation by a computerised surgeon, with human staff on standby, but not a dental one. Am I weird? I wouldn't. The problem with microcontrollers and computers in general is that they need a constant source of power, and even with some non-volatile memory, you will still...

Which is why I say, learn the language - written and spoken - to a decent proficiency, and practice, practice, practice. And not in the bars and clubs either.. :duck: :thumb:

Re: Internet dependency

Unfortunately many retail places now also expect you to have a connected phone, and fit that to happen you need an ISP. Even at the height of CoVid you were expected to have an app to do anything of go anywhere. The digital age is also the age where no permanence exists any more; I still have some s...

Re: Upcoming general election fundamentally flawed: Human Rights Watch

I was here when they had the 'walkthrough' in 1992; my SIL remembers the really bad one before that and the contention is that the reported casualties and the actual numbers are totally out of whack.
