Agree - no probs with my Gmail to date. I do try to keep it 'clean' - family and friends only - and give out the Hotmail address for all other day to day stuff.

Re: BBC journalist faces five years in jail for reporting Thai fraud

A difficult one - Head has crossed the line many times and really should know better by now. It's as if the BBC have let him act like a lose canon in Thailand, because they should have known what he was getting into, and the risks. As his employer the Beeb maybe believes it can sort out the mess Hea...

Re: Why do expats settle for horrible relationships with Thai girls who hate them?
For an extreme example, see this post http://www.huahinforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=31890 But in real life I see it so often. Sad looking old guy walking down the street or around the food court with a grumpy frumpy thai lady following 5 metres behind. How can the...

Re: Why do so many Thais look down on tourist / foreigners?
I do not believe Thais look down on foreigners, it is just that this is a very inward, one may say introvert society, many Thais know nothing about the world outside of Thailand, how to accommodate us, how to talk with us. We including myself also have a problem in that...

Re: Getting employed. What is needed?

You know, I overheard somebody say that thing about heavy priority on Thai nationals. I just did not realize it was by rule of law. Guess i could do some overseas contracting for the time matter. Its gonna take some time, for sure. But eventually i could see myself opening a businness. It's good to...

Re: Getting employed. What is needed?

Hi Stu - not as easy as it sounds. Thailands' work permit laws are very strict - you wouldn't for example find employment with a Thai company as a salesman, because Thai nationals can do that job. Pretty much all jobs which Thais can do are barred to foreigners. There is a list somewhere on the web ...

Re: Shirtless and Topless Farangs

Why would I care if Thais do or don't, I'm not trying to be a Thai - Thais are not schooled in Western values of personal freedom, unfortunately for them. Maybe there's a liberating effect on them, I hope so, I despise their censorship. It isn't 'censorship' - just a cultural norm. It is considered...

Re: Would you drive a black car in Hua Hin?

My wife had a black Civic. I tried to get her to pick another color warning her that black would be hotter inside but she didn't believe me. So it is a thing. I wonder why. Maybe they figure the AC is going to be on anyway so what does it matter? No, they just aren't taught that sort of thing at sc...

Re: Why I Rarely Give Way to Pedestrians at Crossings

I saw a shocking incident yesterday which could have ended with two elderly pedestrians dead. People were waiting to cross at the pedestrian lights outside Bangkok hospital, the lights turned to red well before I got there and stopped. An elderly fragile Thai couple were slowly crossing the road to...

But when you are talking on the phone can that person see what's happening around you like a passenger can?

In other words - passengers often know when to shut up and let you concentrate on the road.

Agreed! That's what I do. I just tell those in the back that I don't really care if they die in an accident, but I don't want them to kill me on their way to the windscreen.
The rear seat belt law has been in force in the UK for heaven knows how many years now, and newer cars have a nasty ha...
