Are these speed traps using radar to detect speed? If so, radar detectors would be quite useful unless they are illegal in Thailand.
Since no one has posted that they use one, I'll assume they're not legal, but has anyone been caught with one and what penalties were experienced?

Re: Seaside spots on the crest of a wave
Seaside? The developments near me in S. Chaam advertise as 'seaside' or 'oceanfront' but in reality offer only a small access to the ocean. Most have maybe 30 - 50 m of oceanfront and spread out to several hundred meters at Petchkasem with thousands of sq m in the middle . Like many new Hua Hin deve...

Re: Have You Quit Smoking?
Best way is cold turkey. It wil be hard and horrible for a few days or weeks, but not months. Don't quit cuz someone wants you to.... wont work. You must really, really want to quit to quit. Bubbly talked about inconveniences regarding flying, etc. I quit exactly because smoking was controlling my l...

Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
Yea, I wouldn't wear a strange helmet either. I've never been on back of a bike thats been waved over anyway. While driving, I avoid eye contact too and it works for me. In cars or pickups, I've been waved over a few times when I wasn't paying attention and one look inside the car seeing a farang ha...

Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops
Bangkok does indeed have a much higher compliance with drivers wearing helmets than anywhere else in Thailand that I've seen, but NOT at all with passengers. Very often I see 4,5, 6 or more on a bike with only the driver wearing a helmet. Not the greatest Dads in the world with the family on the bac...

Re: Hua Hin Classic Car Show 2012
What's the show like? Are the classics from around the globe or centered on American or European? I don't see many classics in Thailand so it would be very cool to see some real nice wheels. I always fantasize what it would like to bring some of my favorite cars to Thailand if I could afford it :cry...

Re: RETIRING IN HUA HIN we need help
Cindy, I bet you didn't know that you needed to know so much about drinking and bathing :? water. The treads in this forum seem to often get wierdly sidetracked. Anyway, I'm a Cha-am guy so not much to offer on living in Hua Hin. HH seems great, but if you want quieter, more local, less fara...

Re: Condo projects totalling Bt10 bn planned for Hua Hin
BTW, Hua Hin residents need not worry about the Energy project. Despite being named the Energy, Hua Hin, it is most definitely located in Cha-am Petchburi, not even close to Hua Hin

Re: Condo projects totalling Bt10 bn planned for Hua Hin
One of the properties mentioned above, The Energy, is under construction now. It used to be rice fields, but now is leveled and elevated and concrete pilings are being pounded in for 6,000 condo units  Rain water used to flow from the western hills, under Petkasem road, thru the rice fields a...

Re: Foreigners that can't be helped/Nightmare neighbours
Neutered! It seems to me that any foreigner that wants to "own" a house rather than rent is going to be held hostage to some extent, hopefully not as much as the OP's example. Whether spoken out loud or not, both husband and wife know who owns the house and who will be out if things ...

Other than the lower financial requirement is there any advantage to getting a marriage visa vs retirement visa , assuming one is eligible for both?

Re: Agents' motivation against selling pre-owned property
Another reason brokers steer clients to new developments is financing. New project developers and their banks usually offer attractive financing packages to buyers. Financing for Thai buyers is dificult for second hand homes and nearly imposiible for foreign buyers.

Re: beaches near Hua Hin
Reasonably good beaches north of Hua Hin, but South of Cha-am. My condo is between the towns and beaches are pretty clean, no sewer issues, and absolutely empty most of the time. Not the great scenary you get south of HH but still pretty relaxing.

BTW, we grow everything in pots, (many many pots) mainly because of animals and valuable plants like Makrut and Jasmine can be brought indoors for winter.
