Re: Team of Thai pickpockets hits Hua Hin

I did some consulting for a business in the UK a couple of years ago and the MD applied what he called a “w**ker tax” of anywhere between 50-100% to people and companies who fit the description. They were still w**kers but they also still paid double and it seems everyone was happy to live with it. ...

Re: Miserable London

Regent Street was pretty spectacular last week. I was in Copenhagen over the weekend and even the lights and traditional Christmas market on picturesque Nihavyn didn’t beat away the driving wind and rain.

Re: Good Restaurants in Hua Hin

I attended a wedding dinner last week that was held at Loetje Supreme in Soi 94 and thought the food there was excellent. The chef even managed to make local beef taste pretty good! I’m not sure if they do Thai food but it’s certainly pretty good for western style food. I believe the chef is Dutch, ...

Re: MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix in Buriram

I went to the MotoGP in Buriram and while I can’t say much about Buriram, the atmosphere and spectacle was great. I have been riding bikes for over 25 years but can’t say I’m any kind of fan of MotoGP or other motorsports come to that. I was with a friend who is MotoGP crazy and it was a chance for ...

Re: Camera and photography thread

Some of these new mirrorless cameras are phenomenal and Sony seems to be leading the pack at the moment. Panasonic’s latest offerings have mind-blowing specifications, although the size and price of both of these manufacturers’ top-end systems is eye-watering.

Re: Document Disposal

Could you put in a bucket, add water and some detergent and let it sit for a day or two, turning it into papier-mâché or pulp? It could then be tipped out and dried in the sun before throwing away and totally indecipherable.

50 years on (except Hua Hin)

I’m surprised. I was born a few years after Armstrong and Aldrin set foot on the moon, 50 years ago today, and would have thought some forum members would be reminiscing about this historic event. But no, it’s the plight if the pound, bars closing in Soi 80 and some nonsense about football or some s...

Re: Short Life Battery

As far as I can work out, there are ‘flooded’ lead-acid batteries that use plates submersed in acid (these used to be the ones we topped-up with deionised water back in the day), AGM batteries described by Nereus and then their gel equivalents. Those latter models were developed for better safety an...

Re: Air Conditioner cleaning

We had aircon refrigerant leaking in two of our units, all of which were fitted new when the house was built in 2011. As Nereus indicated, it was where the pipe had been flared to make a joint—presumably into the compressor on the outdoor unit. In any case, the pipework we had replaced was fairly po...

Re: Buying a SUV?

After three LR Discoveries, from 2008-2019, and a couple of Range Rover Classics that I used to hoon-around in, which were also the last cars I felt I could do any real ‘work’ on, I’ve switched to a VW. And I love it. https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/new-touareg Designed for the Chinese market, acco...
