Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

Food for thought by a lover of Electric Vehicles but a hater of the hassles they continue to present due to lack of infrastructure.

Re: FB Brand Car Battery

When you get Jumper Cables get the longest cable you can find. My first original cable here that came with car was only 1.5 - 2 meters long and couldn't reach anything unless directly next to battery on both cars. Found that out the hard way too. Both of our cars now have 3-4 meter jumper cables.

Re: FB Brand Car Battery

Sadly, car batteries in Thailand only come with a one-year warrantee. They seem to last up to two years then die. Kind of a surprise when I could purchase a 6-year warrantee battery in the US for my cars there.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

I finally remembered why I have been downbeat on the EV's. In US for a few years now BYD has been manufacturing EV busses for public transport agencies anxious to go "Green". Everything I have read about their product being poor quality and not matching the specifications required for such...

Re: Thai Election Promises

I'm sure enjoying reading all the election claims too. What a fraud all these politicians are. The one I really thought was the best proposal was the party who proposed to cut the military budget in half and put that savings back into the people's hands. Wish it could happen.

Re: How often to empty sewage tank

When I first came here 15 years ago finding a WAX toilet seal was a problem and I suspect most toilets were not installed with any and thus your fly breading problem. I don't think the Thai's know much about the necessity of a wax seal between the toilet and drain either. Today wax seals are easy to...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

I sure like what Steve G said as that makes sense once the Solar panels are paid off then it does become FREE energy. Nothing is really FREE. I'm skeptical because I think there are many more parts to the issue that have not yet been solved. I'm not willing to bank on the future that these issues wi...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

Yes, but how long will that take? About as long as it will take to develop enough charging stations to support all the electric vehicles politicians want sold. Great talking points but so far only that. In the future the dreamers and futurists will come to grips with reality especially here in Thail...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

Do you really think that your not giving money to the Middle East if you buy a EV? Where does the electricity come from? The whole "Green" think is flawed but most can't see beyond the buzz work.

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

ALSO hard to figure out what the real gas mileage is vs what the mfg. advertises. Our new city Hatchback real km/liter is getting about 7-8 km/liter less than advertised. Hybrid was advertised at least 5 km/liter more. I don't think my wife is that bad of a driver mostly around town here in rural Kh...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

The math I used to determine the cost of the gas vs hybrid amounted to a 100,000 thb difference between the cost of fuel for the gas vs gas savings for hybrid. Combine that with a battery that is beyond its shelf life at 10 years and the conclusion isn't hard to arrive at. AND to say nothing of gett...

Re: Electric Vehicles (EV) Thread

I just logged into this thread and find the whole EV thing a bunch of baloney. I recently purchased a new City Hatchback and considered the Hybrid vs gas motor. Did the math on the cost of both models. At the end of 10 years your Hybrid was worth "0" (because you had to replace the battery...

Re: US and Thailand Tax Treaty

Does it save on overall taxes in US vs Thailand to do this?
Getting complicated for me unless I save some $ in US taxes over Thailand tax.

Re: Cars with CVT transmissions

I ended up selecting a gas model of the City Hatchback after doing the math and figuring out the cost of gas over a 10-year lifetime of the HEV (Hybrid) over the Gas models. You pay a lot up front for the Hybrid with no real cost savings over 10 years plus the cost of replacing the battery after its...

Re: Cars with CVT transmissions

Just purchased a Honda City Hatchback to replace wife's 13-year-old Jazz (330,000 km). Impressed with the 999cc Turbocharged engine and the smooth CVT transmission. Quiet and drives with smoother low-end power than the old 1500 cc Jazz. Surprising how quiet it is and how smooth it drives especially ...
