Re: Fitbit or similar worn health smart devices
Thanks guys, I've ordered the Amazfit Active in black. Not the cheapest but has good range of functions and it's not as bulky as some of their range!

Fitbit or similar worn health smart devices
I'm 67 and just starting to consider looking after myself a bit: doing moderate exercise, watching weight, I monitor blood pressure but all OK, not much else (sausage roll and espresso for breakfast will not be cancelled). Does anyone use a Fitbit or other wrist device to monitor body health? Are th...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
Just a heads up, Ridley Scott's Gladiator II is due out in November this year. :) It's a sequel (they had also considered a prequel): Director Ridley Scott mentions that since he was last seen approximately 15 years ago, Lucius has been living "in the wilderness" with no connection with hi...

Don't be expecting a thriller or horror film though.

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
The Thai film Hunger is maybe too long for some at 2 hrs 20 mins, and subtitled. Apart from the twisted driven chef of the five star restaurant (think The Menu ) and the two gross food eating scenes (think Raw but without the cannibalism) it's about eating as an act of hunger for status versus eatin...

Re: Android TV box
Is he not fussed about Android version, processor, connections (how many USB ports, HDMI, SD card slot), LAN port, etc.? Lazada is the best way to browse. I use mine as much to play files from an external drive as I do for IPTV. If he really can't wait I would have thought you should get one in Mark...

Re: TV series worth watching/downloading
Granite Harbour was quite good, a suspected murder wrapped up in three one hour episodes, second series already out. A Jamaican ex royal military policeman wants to be a detective and joins the Scottish constabulary as a probationer, but doesn't want to waste time toeing the line.

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
The turn off for me was the pre-1940s way the movie was made. I never gave the story a chance  It was slightly more advanced than Keystone Cops to look at, which was probably quite clever cinematography in 1980. I'm sure there must be something special for 404cameljockey to have had it as his...

Re: TV series worth watching/downloading
Spy/Master is worth watching (unless you're not a subtitles person, they're needed although most dialogue is in English). The first three episodes are really excellent 1970s Eastern European spy work, the last three episodes are pretty good too.

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
I'm a bit wary of recommending anything other than films with guns and explosions, or sci-fi now. But for anyone interested in Charles Dickens' personal life and his heavily suspected affair with Ellen Ternan, The Invisible Woman is a lovely film with a great cast. The romance is handled correctly, ...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
Younger people do I think mainly because they're scrolling their phones all the time and find it easier to check the subs than pay attention to all of the dialogue. :D For me it's quite the opposite: I don't like subtitles, because I'm often watching while doing something else, like cooking or hous...

Re: TV series worth watching/downloading
Two others I've got lined up are Granite Harbour , a Scottish police drama, and 16th century English whodunnit Shardlake ... I know, but not much new sci-fi about at the moment! I've got both on my hard drive too, thankfully I see my Granite Harbour has subtitles, probably needed for the first coup...

Re: The Recommended Movies Thread
I'm not a person for subtitles, so haven't bothered with Raise the Red Lantern. I believe that more and more people watch even English language TV and films with subtitles on, even my son (in his 30s). For some I'm sure it's the mumbled speech in US films, or the dialect in Scottish/Irish films. Yo...

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
After several months of faultless working, Express VPN started playing up again last night. Trying to access iPlayer. Is anybody else experiencing the same please? Dannie Boy, I'm particularly interested in how you are being affected, if at all. BBC may have extended their range of blocked IP addre...

Re: VPN Recommendations and Discussion
I've used WiTopia's PersonalVPN since 2007. They are not the cheapest (not a Cheap Charlie although I'm poor 555) but their instant online service support is superb, and I've never been let down (they couldn't crack NZTV but promised to keep trying!). They issue a custom VPN server address for iPlay...
