Re: Customs shakedown at the airport
I have been picked out for special treatment twice when entering Canada. EVERY item taken out of my bags, went through every pocket in the clothes, demanded PP to my computer and spent 20 mins going through files. X rayed the empty bag I co-operated,what choice do you have. At the end one time I was...

Re: Photo trip report: A glimpse into Cambodia
Getting a work permit seems very easy. I had a letter of invitation, I showed this at the airport and an officer looked at it for about 3 seconds and they gave the appropriate visa ($5 more) then the lady in HR took my PP one day and gave it back a few hours later with the WP. I asked her if it was ...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues
The 5star hotels are very reticent to reveal bookings. I do not remember any person in management in a HH 5star hotel posting on the forum. But talk to the staff at these hotels and they will tell you that the numbers are well down. The observation that Thai thrives on repeat visitors is so true --t...

Re: Photo trip report: A glimpse into Cambodia
I have taken a break from retirement and am in Kampot 145K south of PP. I am leading a team to open a new maternity unit in a charity hospital here. This is the direct opposite of my previous work in Thai as this is a hospital charging laughably low fees and catering to the needs of the poor women o...

Clocktower is a VERY short walk, thru the temple 200m--turn left 100m, first turn on right 100m but if you have lots of luggage (why would you have that) tuk-tuks are all around there.

I just did it. The young ladies who sit outside and check that you have everything are just great. I followed my three rules--Dress well, be respectful and take a Thai friend with me--No problem. One Airport story. I came in last Sat the line-up was long, 60min in the line. When I get to the desk, t...

Re: Fish and Chips
I have recently returned from a visit to the UK, first for 5 years. I was horrfiied at the cost of restaurant and pub food. I had F& C 3 times, in pubs and chippies. in a chippie--8 pounds and in a pub 13 pounds, (with a pint 850b) every one with lemon wedges and tartare sauce, no sign of mushy ...

Have you had a thyroid study done as part of your blood work. An overactive thyroid can produce an intolerance to heat, although that is usually associated with wt loss.

Re: Smartphone vs normal cell phone
I need to get a US purchased Samsung phone unlocked. I was told on the forum-Go to MV 3rd floor many places can do it. I spent time today, I went to about 20 booths, I had my request written in Thai--Blank looks everywhere. Does anybody know a specific place there or elsewhere that has this skill.
