Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark

Oraya's restaurant Location: Soi Selakam, behind Limelight bar (take the right fork in the road) A unique family run restaurant this, and definitely one for those who want to get a better understanding of Thai cuisine. Unusually, the kitchen is at the front, and at quieter times of the day, custome...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

People on the beach today, but no sunbeds or parasols - looks much nicer that way..

Cool Smile has always been good for me, and was very considerate when my GF needed an abcess sorted (she is terrified of dentists)

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark

Two birds, one stone. I needed to buy my year's supply of Allopurinol, which I take daily to ward off gout. It's wonderful stuff, and really works, but you have to be very careful with the dosage. I can get this in the UK with an annual prescription charge ticket which would set me back £104. Shoppi...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark

Yesterday's update delayed for a fact check.. Romantic Bar Location: Soi Bintabaht, in the 'Walking Street' area, about 20m from Poonsuk Rd This is, as confirmed by it's former boss (but still very much around) the oldest surviving bar in the 'Bintablock' area using the same name. U Turn Bar has bee...

Best full English breakfast in Hua Hin 2020

The Limelight Bar boldly claims the best full English breakfast in town. - Surely this is a challenge? My waistline requires moderate participation in any contest, but I can suggest some ground rules: 1) Geographic limit - 2k radius from the clock tower perhaps - or further maybe? 2) Must be menu li...

I'm discouraged  . Isn't it breaking the law as well?
I'm not 100% sure, but is smoking only banned indoors?

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark

Cha-Ame cafe Location: Despite the name, this little pavement cafe is right in the heart of Hua Hin, behind the shopping mall on the corner of Sa Song Rd and the narrow 74/2 alleyway (look for the orange parasols) A simple but super-friendly cafe that makes much of its tea and coffee offerings, but...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark

I have lived around the corner from Na Na's bar( previously Dicks Office, Miss You and Lailas) for seven years and have never seen them serve food. Monas bar a short way closer to Petchkasem on the other side of the street does "pie based" meals. Having said that most of the bars will get...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark

Na Na bar Location: Midway up Soi 80 on the south side Although only going for a couple of seasons IIRC, this bar has become a focal gathering point for older long stay visitors. The reason is simple: Friendly staff, comfortable chairs, cheap beer and no loud music. For most beers they have a happy...

Re: Tom's travels

Buckley's bar Location: The corner of Soi Selakam, formerly the site of Tropical Massage When this opened a year ago it felt like a square peg in a round hole. Vaguely Australian themed. with a couple of kangaroos painted on the outside walls, it was sterile and uninviting, and wrong for its locati...

Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark

As this section has been getting a little slack of late, I thought I'd revive it by posting a daily review of an establishment for the next few weeks. After flying in last night, a priority was to get my talons sorted, so first stop: Thai Thai massage Location: On the corner of the dog leg of Poonsu...

Re: How is Buckley Bar doing?

it seems it is only the Indians and Chinese who are coming to Thailand in any numbers.
If that's the case, how are they getting here?

At the BKK immigration queue last night (after arriving on an Air China flight) those queuing were about 70% european.

Will check out Buckley's tonight..
