Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
The company (pharma) I work for suspended all non-essential business travel and banned all internal meetings from around the last week in February. I was meant to be at meetings in Vienna, Munich, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Dubai and Chicago in March and April but it’s all off now and being done ‘virtually’ ...

Re: Photo Size
On other forums, you can load a picture of any size and they get resized and presumably compressed automatically during the upload.

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
An interesting (lengthy) read here, with a theory that Thailand and others learned from the SARS outbreak. I’m just not sure they have any clue how many cases they have or whether they can accurately test for it.

Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
(anybody know what that number is?) With a calibrated temporal thermometer, which measures the temperature of the temporal artery under the surface of the forehead and not the skin surface, you would get a lower reading of body temperature than from an oral or rectal reading. So anything over 36.5°...

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
Toilet paper seems to be something people are stock-piling in the UK, based on the state of the empty shelves at Sainsbury’s and Waitrose, plus you can’t get hand gel for love nor money. The thing I couldn’t fathom out was a total outage of strong bread flour, white OR wholemeal, used in home baking...

Re: TransferWise and HSBC (US)
TransferWise charges for every transfer they make, perhaps the charge on 68 cents is below their ability to make a charge? Send them a message and ask, they usually respond within 24 hours. I transfer funds from UK banks to my TW account and it’s instant, but that’s because of the UK’s ‘Faster Payme...

Re: Looking for A3 Scanner
I have always been surprised by the number of old books already scanned by libraries and collectors. I know you said it was not available digitally, did you check the repository at books.google.com?

Re: MotoGP Thailand Grand Prix in Buriram
I’m certainly no expert in MotoGP but is it normal to hold the 2019 race in Thailand in October and run the 2020 in March? Irrespective of Wuflu risks, it strikes me as an odd timetabling choice.

Re: China Coronavirus (Covid-19)
. That's true but I wish they wouldn't use the word 'cured' (now isn't that misleading?) There is no cure. It's about people recovering. I think it depends on whether people received treatment or not. If a patient with the virus received no intervention and spontaneously recovered then it’s not a ‘...

Re: China Coronavirus
Stating the percentage of concluded cases is the only reality available. Recognised the world over and also used on previous outbreaks. Anything else is speculation although shows a 'trending'. True figures can only be ascertained from concluded cases. What’s recognised the world over is that a def...

Re: Wuhan Virus Precautions
Don’t get caught out by the mask band wagon, there is a downside to wearing one unless you intend to change it every three hours. They will become warm, moist reservoirs for microbes (bacteria, viruses, fungal spores) and it’s counter-productive to wear them for extensive periods or repeatedly. Yes,...

Re: China Coronavirus
This is still a very under-diagnosed and under-reported disease. Some people will have fairly mild symptoms who may not be reported whereas a proper influenza illness can last a number of weeks so there is not yet an ‘outcome’. My understanding, based on what I’ve read and heard is that unless you a...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
What to tip? Thai tipping is generally at a token level, but the Italians tend to tip like the Americans. Much as I love to read about your mooch about town (it’s bringing back some happy memories) I take issue with this. After five years’ living and working in Italy—Milan—my experience with Italia...

Re: Underwater Obstacles as you approach Suvarnabhumi
There are loads of cables and junction boxes off the sea of the UK, visible on approach over the south east coast. These are linked to the large offshore wind farms that have been built in the past decade.

Re: Underwater Obstacles as you approach Suvarnabhumi
Not sure about Navigation Aids, the enroute chart shows nothing in the sea and with VHF being line if sight you’d probably want as much elevation as you could get, wouldn’t you? I know they are transmitting to an aircraft receiver but on approach they wouldn’t be as high as in the cruise. https://ai...
