Re: The i-things - Apple devices and software thread
This is a situation I am only too familiar with! It’s 99% likely the iPhone 8 has the glitch since other devices connect to the network with no problems.

Re: 737 Max banned from Singapore airspace, grounded worldwide
"The crew performed all the procedures repeatedly...…………….. And probably included turning the system off and on repeatedly! The preliminary report suggests this is not the case. Their repeated actions were pulling back desperately on the stick in an attempt to raise the nose. It’s not clear, t...

Re: 737 Max banned from Singapore airspace, grounded worldwide
Of critically important note, the crew performed the procedures as they had been laid down by Boeing for such an eventuality. You know as much about checklists as anyone here, if you are following them according to your training and what’s written in the POH, what else would you do? In a high stress...

Re: The i-things - Apple devices and software thread
That is a poser! Presumably the TimeCapsule is connected via Cat5 (network) cable to the TOT router via the ethernet port and not one of the LAN ports? Also, are both the TOT router and TimeCapsule creating different WiFi networks or using the same SSID and password? Apple does not play nice with no...

Well, well. Seemingly not pilot error after all.

Re: International money transfers
When I attempted to transfer 7.25M THB from Kasikorn in MV I was told it was not possible without going to BKK with reams of paperwork and evidence going back to 2011, when I bought the money in. I’m sure different bank staff on different days will do wildly different things. The rules for transferr...

Re: 737 Max banned from Singapore airspace, grounded worldwide
Clearly a different case. Different reason? Not so sure. Faulty sensors led to erroneous readings fed to the autopilot that the two First Officers (the Captain was on a break) misinterpreted. They reacted differently, the aircraft computer tried to compensate and it all ended tragically for everyone...

Re: 737 Max banned from Singapore airspace, grounded worldwide
I’m sure there’s more to this than we currently know, perhaps the CVR analysis will help people work out the real issue. What I also found alarming from your earlier post was this: Boeing has pointed out that the pilots flying the same plane on the day before the crash experienced similar behavior t...

Re: 737 Max banned from Singapore airspace, grounded worldwide
What sort of "Captain" cedes control to the FO? :? If I’m not mistaken, in the Indonesia incident the PIC’s ASI was at odds with the copilot’s and in that case control was also handed over to the right hand seat. These aircraft are approved for multipilot operation and current training in...

Re: 737 Max banned from Singapore airspace, grounded worldwide
US pilots have over 700 hrs. flying time. So when a US pilot flies his first flight in a for him/her new aeroplane model he/she already has over 700 hours of flying time in that particular model. The USA is indeed fantastic... In that model, I don't know about others. To fly a commercial je...

Re: 737 Max banned from Singapore airspace, grounded worldwide
The Ethiopian plane that crashed was piloted by someone with only 200 hrs. flying time on that plane. US pilots have over 700 hrs. flying time. Maybe they should look into pilot error. This is what blackbox flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders are for. While it's possible you believe U...

Re: Are medicine expiration dates meaningful?
Yet another big Pharm scam. Fake exp dates to boost sales........shameful. How is this a shameful scam, exactly? The manufacturers warrant their products’ potency for a set period of time. Similar to cars, bananas, houses, almost anything you buy. If it goes wrong or goes bad within the warranty pe...

Re: International money transfers FROM Thailand
We had the devil’s own job getting money back out from Thailand, we have an account with K-Bank. We were advised opening an account with Bangkok Bank would have allowed us to transfer 1M THB per week but not being in Thailand for several weeks made that a non-starter. Not being Thai nor having a wor...

Re: UK--currency & metric
I have no problem converting between imperial and metric although litres per 100km means nothing to me. What I get messed-up with is Imperial pints and gallons vs US pints and gallons. Plus the US don’t use stones and I struggle dividing my weight in pounds by 14 to work out how much I put on over C...

Re: Camera and photography thread
The Nikon DX sensor is not full frame and you will have to consider the 1.5x crop factor for the lenses, making them roughly 28-80 and 28-200 repsectively. The second lens will not only give you a greater magnification capability, it will also help with delivering bokeh on portraits if you have suff...
