Re: Discontent with expat life in Thailand

I'm about the same and have been for a long time. The only thing I'll never get over is the stupidity of some people, 100% preventable by better education and better parenting. I know, you find that in every country but here it's compacted into a smaller and more visible space. Pete  Are yo...

Re: Honda Bike Reviews

It's amazing to see a DCT on what's effectively a big scooter. I'd be keen to give the Integra a go as an alternative to a six-speed manual, especially for any city commuting. I think my sports bike and even sports tourer days are over now in any case, it's just too much hassle for too little reward.

Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops

Yes, that is my understanding as well. however, i wasn't sure of J.J.B.'s nationality, and when he said he had a Blue Book, I thought that he might be Thai. I believe the yellow book will do instead of the immigration letter. However, for the sake of 300 Baht, against the possibility of being refus...

Standing room only, disappointed to be turned away! Still, it sounds like those who could find a seat enjoyed themselves...maybe next time.

Re: Hua Hin Police Traffic Stops

I was also told I needed the medical document as well as I document I can get from the police station that proves I actually live where I say I live. Did you not have to provide this proof of address ? The medical document, I simply found a doctor in Pranburi. He gave me a quick examination/eye tes...

Re: Pre Christmas Blues

It's a celebration of Christmas that includes well-known Carols and readings I'm sure many would recognise, from the Choir of King's College Chapel in Cambridge. It's available on the World Service (I don't quite know when) as well as Radio 4, live at 3pm GMT - ... the radio service is the real dea...

Re: HHForum Ten Year Celebrations

I'd love to come and will probably bring the wife and the outlaws who are visiting for Christmas and New Year. They're Forum-illiterate but will come for the fishing and we'll probably head off in the early evening since I'll most likely be nursing a sore head...again! If you want me to bri...

Re: GSM SIM card with data number needed

Thanks, Pleng. There is no web interface. It's a system called Wintex that relies on sending and receiving simple commands via the modem V.21 bis protocol at 2400bps and needs the installed program on the remote PC to work. It's not designed for real time control, rather changes to the remote set-up...

GSM SIM card with data number needed

Before the world became awash with smartphones and tablets, where chasing faster and faster mobile bandwidth is all that seems to be important, you used to get a SIM card that came with a voice number, a data number and a fax number. I have some home automation kit with a GSM modem that I want to be...

Having cycled to work here last week when it was -7 °C, I can tell you that snow is the very last thing I'm going to Thailand for Christmas for!
I agree, I left 20cm of the stuff in Milan on Friday and have no desire to see it here in Hua Hin!

Re: "Final" countdown to "REAL RETIREMENT"

Many thanks, MB, it sounds ideal and I look forward to it one day. For now though, it's still a distant dream I get to sample every now and then. Presently I'm getting ready to leave a snowy, cold Milan (around -2 at the moment) and board my plane to BKK, arriving in HH tomorrow morning! I'll try no...

Re: Trifle Spnges/Maderia Cake

Will the shop clerk really know what's in a certain cake, or just give the answer the buyer wants to hear to get a sale? Actually, because of my problem, my wife often asks that question, and the answer so far has always been honest and correct. Believe me, it would only take one bite (I wouldn't h...
