Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
Wine is a bummer though, to drink local means sacrificing a HUGE amount on quality, that's one downer I admit, but: IT''S CHEAP. :D Not sure I would agree that it's cheap, unless you are comparing it to Middle East prices, it's certainly not cheap compared to the UK and many other places, which is ...

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years
With the exception of a 7 year stretch from '84-'91 and 10 months in '02, I have been an expat since '79 but go back to the UK every year at least once and for the most part always enjoy it. I ways back in Feb. & Jun. this year and couldn't help but be very happy about the prices of just about e...

Re: Newest Camper Van
Silly question I'm sure, but why not just buy a pucker RV or camper van?

Re: Whats this Forum's Name?
No it's not RCer, come on, it's not even close. The post you went off about this morning from Takiap concerning electric cars was tongue in cheek, and there's some of that on here from long term members from time to time. There used to be much more of it, and endless banter as well, but alas all ha...

Re: Another cowardly farang bashing in Hua Hin
To discuss a post titled 'another cowardly farang bashing in Hua Hin' without discussing the meaning behind the chosen title is rather stupid. I agree entirely, however I maintain my position, that I believe IMHO this thread has gone off the main theme, but that's just my opinion and it's by no mea...

Re: Another cowardly farang bashing in Hua Hin
I know this is off topic (again) but if you look up those words, you will find they are not meant as being derogatory (except farang in India). The words farang, gaiijin and gweilo go back many moons before insults were invented. Farang is actually buried in French history before the country was na...

Re: Another cowardly farang bashing in Hua Hin
I'm sorry to say, but IMHO this post has lost the plot. Right from the get go there has been no real understanding of why this guy was attacked and despite the fact that I unwisely made a silly posting early on, no one has been able to substantiate whether or not the expat (and I refuse to use the w...

Re: Football Transer Fees/Salaries Criminal or Simply Insane?
Lets hope he doesnt do his cruciates in his first game for PSG ! :guns: Sorry, but it would be poetic justice if he did exactly that. It is pretty obnoxious actually, there is absolutely not justification for this at any level. It was also reported that his advisor/manager, who just happened to be ...

Re: Shipping golf club from BKK airport to Hua Hin
Why don't you just have a family member, or friend or colleague send them to you by DHL or UPS or whomever, once you know that you are a couple of days out from HH. That's got to be a lot easier and cheaper than hauling them to BKK and then returning to SIN, unless of course you happen to travelling...

Re: Electric Cars
Here's an interactive map of what Scotland has to offer. I heard about this listening to a show about a trip around the "North Coast 500" in an electric BMW. Scotland seems well geared up at least for the present given the quantity of electric cars on the roads. I don't recall if they sai...

Re: Another cowardley falang bashing in Hua Hin
It's been said before but I suppose it's no worse than happens outside Manchester nightclubs on a Saturday night. Sorry, but I'm not sure how you equate Brits kicking the shite out of each other(stupid bar stewards for doing so in the first place), with the fact that it is clear that Thai men (at t...

Re: Biggest Benefit to Being Expat
When I first started working overseas back in the 70s, Caucasians were referred to as expats and basically all others were TCNs (Third Country Nationals), but now it is more common to refer to Western Expats and Eastern Expats. There is no doubt that to a greater extent the very generous expat packa...
