Re: Books

Currently reading I am Pilgrim, Terry Hayes. So far so very good, can't put the thing down. "The narrative is thrilling: the tension tightens with action...It's a murder mystery, an illuminating account of contemporary international politics and a study of an unusual man......An excellent thri...

Re: Money exchange

Also notes to be exchanged need to be free of any scribbles and rips. Why do people write on bank notes anyway?

Re: Changing Face of Hua Hin

During my recent visit all of the restaurants were very quiet with the exception of the pier ones. People seem to like the piers. By all means develop north of the piers but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water. Perhaps a vote could be set up at the top of the page--- What picture do you ...

Re: Changing Face of Hua Hin

Having a meal at a restaurant on one of the piers I regard as one of the highlights of dining out in HuaHin. The cool sea breezes, looking out at the ships that are illuminated whilst enjoying a really good meal at a great price is a great attraction for me. The busy narrow streets with their numerou...

Re: Dying In Thailand

On a lighter note it was reported in the press last week that relatives are attempting to smuggle the bodies of loved ones on to a plane to avoid the high charges involved in transporting a deceased person back to the UK. You can imagine the scene at check in--- " did you pack your case yoursel...

Re: Magic Baloon Restaurant BEWARE !!!

Surely when faced with unsatisfactory service our first action should be to voice ones concerns to the manager or business owner. I'm sure all owners welcome any shortcomings to be brought to their attention. Assuming they are expressed in a civilised manner. I'm reluctant to slag off any business s...

That was very moving. Thanks for sharing.

A WW1 movie well worth watching is Stanley Kubricks " Paths of Glory" ( black and white though)

The Scot in the above photo may reflect that not one of the Scottish team could get into the England side.

I have a feeling this may get the same response as Dylan did when he went electric. Pretty innovative though.

Re: GBP vs THB

Yes I get get that bit. What I was getting at is Fx trading is very unpredictable and the vast majority of punters lose money. Trading in stocks offer better odds (IMHO)

Re: GBP vs THB

Possibly but I wouldn't wait for it (bird in the hand----) I believe the government is concerned that the high pound is affecting British exports. Tempting for Brits to buy US$, Gold and Thai stocks just now on the other hand Fx trading seems to work in surprising ways at times.

Re: Tourism set for B1bn revival plan

A real boost to Thai tourism would be to encourage the UK government to reduce the tax on long haul flights (they made a small reduction in the latest budget). On a recent visit 50% of the cost was taxes and fees. Do other countries levy such high taxes?

Re: Do you have a Visa credit card/Mastercard from a Thai ba

Agreed,my bank allows me to set up a direct debit from my current account so that the balance is automatically paid off each month meaning I don't have to think about it. I was considering dumping my credit card but some hotels and car hire firms will not accept a debit card when you present it at r...
