Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand

For my main trip over each year, I jump on a plane just after Xmas and head back mid March - the humidity is usually fairly modest at that time of year, which for me is much more important than the slightly lower temperatures.

However, the fact that I'm perusing this site now makes me realise that waiting till the end of the year before I come over again is going to be tough - might just slink over for two or three weeks next month.. :P
I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly...

Back to the weather, just a little bit up the road from HH and closer to Cha Am, yesterday afternoon and evening we had some of the heaviest rain I have ever experienced with lots of localised flooding - nothing too serious but if it keeps on at this rate, it could become really bad. Was it as bad in HH?

Yes, that sounds about the same as the Bon Kai area of Hua Hin.

That's good; our new house is near to you and the large rain water tank was getting low!

In the Bon Kai area (and probably everywhere else), today's shower made yesterday look like very light rain. Even now, about an hour after the heaviest of the rain stopped falling, there is still a river flowing down our road (and we live at the top end of the road) - no idea where the water is coming from.

I got home to the condo from soi 80 with 30 seconds to spare and then I watched it come in from the west. It's one of the benefits of living high up

I've just been on the phone and the tanks now full, that's about 40,000 litres of free water in 24 hours!

Near Terry and his fishing ponds, my home weather station recorded;

Sat: 37.5 mm > 1 hour
Sun: 18.5 mm over 3 or 4 hours, went to bed while still raining.
1 mm = 1 litre/sq Metre

If you've got a station that can be hooked up to a computer, maybe look at the below link and become a published Hua Hin personal weather station. (hit the grey "Station" button for details) Pete

Interesting stats Chas

I was (unusually) home this weekend as had to finalise my visa on Friday.

Mrs.T and my staff said that in the 9 years or so that we have been at the Lodge there has never been anything like the rain experienced on Saturday.

Our top pond 'lipped' the emergency overflow for the first time ever and both bottom pond overflows were at almost full bore for the first time ever. So it all works 8) 8)

The fish were loving it - jumping all over the place - it was great to watch, but I got back too late (around 7.00pm) to get any video of it. :D

Also at the top of the hill on the Pa La U road - near the elephant camp entrance there were immense amounts of water and debris running of the hill - the roadside gulleys, which are very deep, just could not cope with it. :(

Sunday pm I was on my way back to Swampy for the flight back to Hanoi and Mrs.T confirmed heavy stuff again.
