Englishman robbed and killed in Hua Hin?

Post by hhfarang »

My wife was reading the Daily News (online Thai news site) yesterday and it reported the death of a 68 year old Englishman in Hua Hin who was killed during a robbery home invasion at an address off the klong road.

As best she could translate this from Thai to English his name was Raymond John Hide.

Does anyone know him or have any further information about this terrible crime. I haven't seen anything reported in the English language news.

The edit button was gone before I could update the last post, but I guess the English spelling of that last name is Hyde instead of Hide.

Here is the Thai news link for those who read the language:

It's said he had problems with some young people in there, but you are right, he's dead, killed and robbed.

Where is this located ?

The address mentioned in the article say house No. 34/146 Soi Khao Noi.
Sorry to hear this and I hope the police will find and arrest the killers asap.

Yes, correct, but nothing reported on this in any Pattaya papers or websites yet. Perhaps HH has a soi of the same name? Pete

We always close the doors with lockers, even if we are in the home.

I was friend of ray when he was living in the uk and also visited him whilst he lived in thailand. He was reluctant to move to thailand as he had suffered with throat cancer and when I spoke to him recently he had just been diagnosed with restricted arteries to the brain so his outlook was not good. He was a lovely man and a gentle person and not at all agressive so we are all at a loss why anyone would do this although about a month ago he was attacked and badly beaten with a club when he returned home late at night. His attacker just ran off without attempting robbery so some other motive must exist. Hopefully his attackers get what they deserve. We will all miss him.

As far as we are aware the British Embassy has been closed over the holiday period and it is unlikely that they have officially notified the family. This is a very sad and sensitive situation so we will keep this thread open for condolences and messages of support only.

It will be closely monitored and any speculation or rumours regarding this tragic incident will be removed out of respect for those that have lost a loved one.

Very sad news indeed, to me it sounds like whoever clubbed him before,and/or indeed killed poor Ray saw his
weakened state of health as the excuse needed to attack and try rob him.
Condolences from Mrs US & Myself.

I don't think I know Ray, but echo Usual Suspects condolences to his family, and sorrow that this type of vicious attack should happen in HuaHin. We used to think of it as such a peaceful place.

Hua Hin used to be a peaceful and reasonably safe place, but as the town has grew with that came the influx of Thais from the poorer provinces and I suspect that the increase in crime is a direct result of this.

RIP Ray
