The new Venezia Shopping complex

Post by Dannie Boy »

Does anybody know if the Villa Market shop at Venetia has opened yet, or if not, when it is opening?

The dots make it look quite sinister - were you 'casing' the place??

If you don't need Villa Market, Venezia is worth a visit now. Gondola rides, kid's activities and many shops are all open.

The place is a bit of a down market and much smaller copy of Villaggio Mall in Doha, Qatar

I shall have to take a look when I get back to Hua Hin.

I remember Villaggio well I used to live just over the road from there, when I worked in Qatar.

I lived just the other side of the sports complex by the aquatic centre, good days over there. I see they just jailed Sheikh Ali Bin Jassim Al Thani, one of the co-owners, he is also currently Qatar's ambassador to Belgium, while Iman al-Kuwari, the other co-owner, is the daughter of Qatar's culture minister.

The ex Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani must not be happy

Drove over for a visit on Monday. Luckily I was also going to Thai Watsadu so at least the fuel wasn't totally wasted. Big, big disappointment. I read some time ago that the reason the opening was being delayed was to ensure that the quality and accuracy of the build was spot on. Well, I hate to see what the place will look like in another twelve months - lots of problems with the finished product and quite honestly it is still a bit of a ghost town - or maybe they are still working through the "snag list". It may have been a better idea to wait till all was finished before opening the limited number of shops. I suppose it will fill up on the weekend with curious visitors from Bangkok.

I too decided to visit on Monday after the above recommendation. What a waste of time and fuel. Most shops empty or closed -builders everywhere. I then decided to visit the new floating market near Wat Huay Mongol -Even fewer shops open and the only thing floating was rubbish. :cuss:

Any update on this place? Will be coming over in February. Worth a look?

If your coming in February, there's every chance it will be finished or thereabouts by then - maybe best to ask the same question in January?

Its been 'open' for a few weeks now. There's more and more coming on line daily, but it'll still be a while before everything is open.

It is worth seeing, although be prepared for Disneyland as opposed to authenticity. Nice for a walkabout, but you'll need a mortgage before you can afford to shop there. At least one of the restaurants has received a favourable write up.
