I do not go in the water if I have any recent cuts or abrasions. The water certainly looks cleaner than a lot of other beaches in Thailand, but to my knowledge there are no official reports of water quality.

Shallow water full of sewerage not good. Not many people swimming!

Has anyone been by the beach close to Monkey Mountain"? We are planning to gl there tomorrow. The beach seemed pretty dead when we took a walk there yesterday. Little people, and there were only about 10 beds for rental there.

Are you referring to the beach just south of the mountain? Then the beach is called "Khao Takiab Beach" and I, and I guess most beach people here, have been there many times. In high season it's rather crowded, but I don't really know how it's this season.

If you continue south for maybe a couple of kilometers you get to the "Suan Son Beach", in my opinion the best beach around Hua Hin.

Far better! Susan son...Do you mean the school, Suanson?
If so, it would depend on what part of the beach you were at.

South end side, on Cha-am front...5 minutes by motorbyke.

I thought Suan Son Beach was the one on the Army compound south of Takiab and the Army golf course, and yes the quality is better both there and Cha-Am than Hua Hin. Unless a waste treatment facility has been built in the last few years that I haven't heard about, Hua Hin dumps waste directly into the sea at the north end of downtown. I used to stand above and watch the smelly waste water flowing freely from a large pipe directly into the sea... granted that was quite a few years ago so there could be some treatment now.

There is a treatment plant down that way, but the beach in that general vicinity smelt very bad when I did my beach walk North earlier this year. What I presume to be the source/outlet was still active.

Nowhere, you have to go a couple of hours south to find that water clarity.

Curious if they have the same problems on the west coast near Phucket with waste in the water?

The colour of the sea water on the beach near to the Hilton has had a look just like pea and ham soup this week, plus a few croutons added for good measure.
They have now put up signs warning bathers about the danger of the seashells on the boulders.

Well done for you Big Boy, however they have erected at least 3 new ones which are totally different to the original one, they are in about 3 different languages. I cannot be bothered to post images but I am sure that you will notice them when you are down that way.

The water off Khao Takiab is infected with some sort of algae or bacteria which causes itching. Washing with fresh water or a shower takes care of it. Both yesterday and today I saw and talked to people exposed to it.
