Exactly. This is why I was mystified when people told us they had done the walk. I've been in these camps and have seen that the walk would be very difficult, which is why I mentioned potential problems in the other thread.prcscct wrote:There is no beach path or bridge at all where these canals are. Part 2 – Royal Palace to Queens Park
This leg of the journey was shorter than I intended. Because I was travelling alone, I took our smallest/youngest/fittest dog along for the companionship. My reasoning being that if an old man like me could hack the heat and the walking, our youngest dog would keep up easily – how wrong I was.
The first beach entry point North of the exclusion zone was Queens Park. My dog and I joined the beach, and set off for the Northern end of the exclusion zone. I’d checked the tide tables and today’s low tide was 10:56am. I think it was a misprint because that was high tide. Again, I had very little beach to work with, and actually trespassed in somebody’s front garden for a few yards (I did put the dog on the lead first).
We eventually reached our start point for the day, the Northern side of the exclusion zone. I walked out to the water’s edge, and noticed that my young companion was absolutely knackered. He kept laying on the sand, and whining a lot. It was at this point that I decided Queens Park would be our finish point today. The exclusion sign was the same as the Southern end, but there was more evidence of security and CCTV at this end.
;
The beach had taken on cleaner appearance since the previous leg, but that was probably due to the high water levels. Broken glass was still a problem. Because of the state of the tide, and the high sea walls, there was no opportunity to take panoramic photos.
This stretch of beach was mainly residential properties. Some were beautiful, and some had seen better days. Whatever the state of the property, they all stood on huge plots of land, and must be worth a lot of money.
There were also several stretches with nothing on them at all – just wilderness.
The force of the sea must be a problem on this stretch of beach because in 2 places the sea wall had been reconstructed to handle rough seas.
There were a few Thai bathers at the exclusion end. I guess there must have been a small hotel close by.
The only other hotel I saw here was the large Imperial Hua Hin Beach Resort. There were no beachside facilities for residents (unless they are brought out as the tide goes out). The beach itself here was quite clean, although there were many small rocks and broken shells that I would have to be very careful with.
Obviously I could still see the guard ships, and the yellow buoys marking this side of the exclusion zone were also visible.
We also passed a couple of fishermen throwing and retrieving their nets. I did not see any fish caught.
My poor companion was really feeling the heat by now, and when the 3 chaps walking ahead of us stopped to discuss something, he laid in their shadows – funny to watch, but quite worrying at the same time. I had chosen my companion carefully because he normally loves walking on the beach, but this was his first time without at least one of the other 2 dogs. A little later on he was attacked by 5 dogs (I’d left my stick in the car), and received a bite on his bum (no blood, but shook him up). At that point I’d wished I’d taken one of the other 2 dogs – either one of them would have seen the other 5 dogs off no problem to protect the little one. Probably just as well the Rottweiler wasn’t there; she’d have ripped the dog that bit my companion to shreds.
Anyway, the end of this leg was in sight now – Queens Park. It looks so much different from the beach.
Before we got back into the hot car, my companion and I sat in the shade while he cooled off. I improvised a drinking dish for him from a plastic cup, and he drank the lot. We’ve now been home over 3 hours, and this usually hyperactive chappie is still totally out for the count – absolutely knackered.

Re: Hua Hin Beach North of Chinese Temples to Cha-Am Report
This is a great thread. Well done.
Just north of the airport, you will come across a very good restaurant where you will be able to refresh yourself.
Its called Bor Fai Chaai Talee, its actually a military hotel/residence with a restaurant attached. There are a few salas on the beachfront lawn, and a restaurant and bungalows behind. Well worth a break there for some drinks and good reasonably priced food.
I think you will have to make some substantial detours inland when you get to the army camps and the kings teak palace further north.

Thank you REEM (restaurant sounds nice, and somewhere for Mrs BB to sit as I walk). All being well, I'm heading up that way this afternoon (taking my small companion again - I'll make sure I take my stick as well). I will go as far as I can, or walk for an hour, then walk back again.

Re: Hua Hin Beach North of Chinese Temples to Cha-Am Report
Wifey came to me the other day with a condominium project she had been notified of in her mail account, The Bella Costa.
I looked iy up on the internet, it seems to be located by the beach not far from HH airport south side. I'd like to know it's state of completion and any impression you acquire from the beach side if you don't mind, when you get to there
No need PM, a few words on this thread is enough.
Enjoy your local excursion reports as always.

If I can identify it, of course I will. However, most places going North are quite anonymous from the beach. I'll let you know if I spot it.

I'll also be curious when you report on the "walkability" or rader, "traversability" from south coming on to the Dusit Thani hotel beach and northwards.
I have often thought of checking this out when we recharge batteries there but so far never did in order not to venture too far away from the wife and son by the kids pool. Maybe this year with 6 year old charging down the beach, me in tow.

No worries Frank. If an old, unfit guy like me can manage it, you'll be OK

I checked the web site again - false alarm I am afraid. It lools like its the Sales Gallery which is north, whilst the resort itself is south of Khao TakiabBig Boy wrote:If I can identify it, of course I will. Strange arrangement.

Are you trying to do a "mad dogs and Englishmen" rendition BB? Be careful out there, this is blood heat we're having.

Does BB look like Joe Cocker as well?

REEM, good shout, thank you. I actually used their car park, and entered the beach from this restaurant, leaving Mrs BB to run up a nice bill
Frank, you obviously answered your own question. However, there is a lot of development going on with this stretch also.
Pete, it's lovely walking the beach this time of year. I cover up, use sunscreen and take plenty of fluids with me. I've even started wearing a hat to cover my bald patch. The sea breeze is so refreshing. I've decided to leave the dog home in future. I think he was trying to tell me something by walking in my ample shadow (made him look like a very obedient dog actually). He needed quite a few stops to take on fluids - he's totally out for the count now .

Re: Hua Hin Beach North of Chinese Temples to Cha-Am Report
I've just spent the day on the beach at Cha-Am. On the way home I took the first left after the Dusit Thani looking for my next entrance to the beach for the next leg of my journey. It was nice down that way with a few restaurants worth trying out at some stage.
After this stage, I anticipate having to miss a large section of beach because of army land and the summer palace.

.......it sounds like we should venture right in front of Dusith Thani beach and stroll along for lunch
