Re: Changing Face of Hua Hin
I've expanded the stamp a little, and the closest reference/similarity that I can find dates back to 1883.
I think 2416 equates to about 1873
He's obviously a little older in the postcard stamp.

I did a bit of a search on the stamp as well. The stamp puts the card in or about 1909. The stamp is a 2 atts stamp overprinted with 2 satangs. Satangs were introduced in 1909 and replaced the previous fractions of the baht (64 atts in a baht (or tical)). The stamp can be seen here. And the currency explanation can be found here. Of all the original subdivisions of the baht only the salung (= 25 satang) appears to remain in common use, and mostly when dealing in gold.

Ouch! I was a bit slow posting otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Migrant's offering is more likely given the date on the card.

The Monarch on the stamp is Rama V, Chulalongkorn, who reigned until 1910.
Would Siam still have used these stamps after that date?

Haven't read up on it but Rama V was a very popular King both locally and globally so maybe his influences carried on for some time into Rama VI's reign

That looks about right Big Boy.
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

Takiap Got my glasses on and still can't make out the date.Takiap wrote:Khundon1975 wrote:dtaai-maai wrote:Looks like the date is in the bottom right corner of the postcard - April 1916?
Thanks DM, I'm crap at Thai dates, if the wife had been here I would have asked her.
I don't think you need a translator, but you might want to consider having your eyes tested. The date on the postcard is not in Thai.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

I was so fixated on the damn stamp looking for the date, that I didn't look on the postcard.

Just before I go, does anybody think that the rocks in the picture on the postcard, are those below the Hilton?
