Suspect "Police" house visit in Hua Hin
Suspect "Police" house visit in Hua Hin
Two men I know have both gotten a surprise visit from the police past two days in their house. The two ”policemen” enter in the house without the leave of the occupant, demand to see passports, visas, driving licenses and appear to write some sort of protocol of their visit. They do not speak english, do not justify their actions nor display any documentation as to reason of their visit. This is really, really fishy.
I suspect these clowns are a couple of idiots portraying themselves as the police and are on a power-trip.
Should I ever get such a visit, this is what I would do:
1. I would not let them in the house at all. I would keep them outside of the gate.
2. I would make a lot of close-up photos of them, their uniform, badges and regalia and vehicle.
3. I would demand to see documentation as to reason of their visit.
4. I would then call the police on the sly and demand them to send a squad to my address.
5. I would not show them any documentation but would go with them to police station proper.
I doubt they would want to go there with me.

Re: "Police" visit
Seriously, what do you expect when you live in a police state.... after all that's what Thailand is now.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Suspect "Police" house visit in Hua Hin
Ridiculous exaggeration!
Re: Suspect "Police" house visit in Hua Hin
I think you could be correct in that they're not police at all. Perhaps casing the house for a future robbery attempt if anything of value spotted during their visit.

very scary. maybe a good reason to invest in CCTV camera storing images on a remote server. just one camera at the door would do it. they cost about 3000 baht.
could you say where this happened? both "visits" in the same area?

The incident took place at roughly on the designated area. The environment on both occasions is less than filthy rich, so casing the joints is a remote possibility.
Thailand is not a police state. All persons - farangs included - do have rights that the police must and do respect. Among these is the sanctity of your home: police has no right to come to your house unless there is either:
a) search warrant, or;
b) well-justified reason to suspect a serious crime is being committed on the premises or there is a report being filed by a third party.

I received their visit today about 5 men. I took their picture, they took mine asked for passport car and bike licence plate, one of them wrote a protocol, all that in the garden, no house entry. They did it in the whole area.
Re: Suspect "Police" house visit in Hua Hin
did they say what they wanted?
are they police? uniforms? guns? radios? scooter or truck with markings?
did they know you lived there?
are you in the same area as the map?

So then..the MiB are coming directly to ex-pat's houses to ask for ID & other such details..
..how do they know the address..? Has this info come from immigration..? Is it a one-off thing or in time are we all due a 'visitation'..?? Maybe WE need to start asking them Q's before giving up our info..?

It's the 'fashion Police' looking for 70's throwback with a dodgy taste in Trousers and a mullet hairstyle!
Enjoying 'Retirement'....So many jobs to do, I don't know how I ever had time to work!
Re: Suspect "Police" house visit in Hua Hin
Report it to the main police station and demand answers. If no joy then report it to the army. This has been done before and the police concerned have had a slap on the wrists. THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ACT IN THIS WAY - PERIOD.
Re: Suspect "Police" house visit in Hua Hin
They were here in our road as well three days ago, but instead of calling at each home, they simply set up camp at one home and all Farang in our soi were told to show themselves.
We were had to produce a small ID size photo; copy of passport (main page); map showing house location, and a photo of the house. We were also asked to complete a "Foreigner Verification" form, of which more than half was in Thai.
Apparently it is for our safety and also to weed out Farang staying here illegally. What struck me was the fact that nobody asked to see visas, and no mention of visas on the forms either.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

For our safety my arse! This is another example of a district doing what it wants, and I guarantee Bangkok HQ police or Gov. know nothing about it. I probably can't say it's illegal, but simply that existing law doesn't cover it one way or the other. Harassment by omission in other words.
