Re: Rip Kees van dobben
I just spoke to a friend, he was admitted to hospital in Phuket for 4 days with stomach problems. After returning home a few days later, he collapsed and was rushed to hospital again but unfortunately passed away before reaching there.
Re: Rip Kees van dobben
That's really sad news. I knew Kees well during the time we overlapped in HH and went down to Biang Niang/Khao Lak on a few occasions to stay with him in his bungalows although that was some time ago now .
He was always a mine of information on local regions and Thailand generally and was never too busy to help anyone out.
RIP, Kees. This news has come as a real shock. This evening, I'll remember the good times we shared.

I wanted to post the sad news on here but find it already posted. I am the friend mentioned and I am already in touch with Kees brother Han who has informed the rest of the family and is making arrangements to attend the funeral service soon to be held in Bang Niang Khao Lak.
I visited Kees last week when he was hospitalized in Wachira Hospital in Phuket and he was in a relatively good mood and showed his usual "oh well, shit happens" attitude. They diagnosed him with a stomach ulcer and released him on Saturday morning. Advised a lot of rest and for the next two weeks only soft and light food as in rice soup. Next thing I know I receive a telephone call from his wife on Monday morning that Kees passed away in Takua Pa hospital. Apparently he went in shock and died of major blood loss through internal bleeding in the intestinal tract.
Me and my wife went to Takua Pa to help Kees' wife with the formalities and we contacted the Dutch embassy and after a while were able to trace and contact Han.
Date for the cremation will probably be known later today.
I met Kees in 1994 when he just opened the Usaah Guesthouse and Amsterdam Bar in Hua Hin two weeks prior.
From then on we became - I am happy I can say - very good friends. RIP Kees. You will be missed.
