Yes you can. see http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/environ ... -hin-beach

It keeps you above the oil slick and all the horse crap too. No idea how much it costs though.

I just love walking the beach in the mornings (before Thailand's answer to the Exxon Valdez crisis), just contemplating my navel, thinking about good things and then there's some galloping coming from behind me.
Well, my tranquility has disappeared.
I don't actually care about the shite that's left behind but I do object to some 10 year old brat who's been given free rein and is charging down the beach like the charge of The Light Brigade with the mahoot running after them.
They're scary people and should stay on a racetrack not the beach.

I hate the horses on the beach and those that take horse rides are just adding to the problem

They're a traditional part of Hua Hin, there have been horses to rent on the beach since the
1920's when the railway was opened.

I don't particularly like them, but they have as much right to be there as me and my dogs. IMHO so long as their handlers clean up after them, let them be.

Unfortunately they leave their mess everywhere, both in the water and on the steps to the beach.

I don't know how common it is but a couple of times last month I was having a beer in a beach restaurant and observed the horse owners collecting the aforementioned equine output in plastic bags. If my late father had been there he would have asked them for it to put on the roses!

Just about how I view stray dogs and the kind hearted people who feed them.

Sorry, I don't remember the cost but my daughter rode on the beach every time she visited. If you can demonstrate to and/or convince the owner that you are an experienced rider, they will let you do it without them but you have to promise not to run the horse, otherwise you are only walking with the owner holding the reins or walking along side. You are only supposed to walk or trot the horse. She always managed to trot one up or down the beach (all the way from the main Hua Hin beach to the end at Takiab and back usually) with the owner walking far behind so they could watch from a distance and pick up any excrement left behind. She is a trained and experienced rider and also speaks Thai. I remember it seemed kind of expensive but I don't remember the exact cost. Like anything else there, you can bargain the price down. My wife and daughter did.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Up to a year or so ago, the cost at Kao Takieb was up to around 400 baht for half an hour or further north at Puktien, 60 baht for half an hour. A good example of the rip-off that goes on here. Once when my daughter asked why it's almost 7 times the price here, she was told 'Food is more expensive here'. BS!
