The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2015
The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2015
This year we have already raised well over 10,000 baht and hope this will grow more in the run up 11/11. Plenty of Poppies and pins, please contribute.
Poppies are also available at Buffalo Tavern.

Re: The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2015
I am not a racist smear,
I am not a fashion statement,
To be worn but once a year,
I am not glorification
Of conflict or of war.
I am not a paper ornament
A token,
I am more.
I am a loving memory,
Of a father or a son,
A permanent reminder
Of each and every one.
I'm paper or enamel
I'm old or shining new,
I'm a way of saying thank you,
To every one of you.
I am a simple poppy
A Reminder to you all,
That courage faith and honour,
Will stand where heroes fall.

JD,
We just returned from a visit to a local war memorial that bears my grandfathers name, he died in what is now Nam Tok in Thailand on the railway.
Thank you for posting the poem, I've not read it before, but it brought a tear to my eye.
Lest we forget.
Rob

Thank you JD for this wonderful poem. Something to remember for all of us.
Re: The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2015
Thanks for that Rob c, I know, that you know your Grandfather IS A HERO.
Everyone that joined the fight for freedom over fascism, whether they gloried at the end of the road to Berlin or endured the hell of the rail to Burma, did so, for all of us who are here today. They can never be forgotten.
A flame burns bright in Thailand tonight in his honour, as I have just lit a candle in his memory and given thanks for his service. I also wear a poppy everyday at this time of year as a symbol of respect and remembrance for all who joined the fight.

Re: The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal 2015
JD,
Thank you so much, I will relay your message on to my mother, she has little memory of her father before he went to war, but she has always missed him desperately on a daily basis, he left a big hole in her life.
As you say though, he died for our freedom, and even for the freedom of Thailand perhaps, because if the Japanese got their way, who knows where the country would be now.
I will be back to Kanchanaburi this Easter to hopefully gain some more information on him, before our annual trip to Hua Hin.
Thanks again
Rob

We visited our local Commonwealth War Cemetary about 40 minutes from our house in Sousse, Tunisia. Like all such places the 1551 graves are immaculately kept. Last year there were about a dozen people there, this year there was just me, Mrs.A., our daughter and granddaughter, and although she is only 3 she managed to observe a minute`s silence with us at 11am. Still moving.

Hi JD,
I just thought I'd let you know, that our 9 year old son had to write about a poem he liked for homework. I showed him the poem you posted above, he wrote the poem out and explained about what had happened to his great grandfather in Thailand during WW2, and our visit to Nam Tok/Kanchanaburi this year.
The teachers were amazed with the poem and story, so much so that he's going to read it out in assembly tomorrow, in front of 500 children.
So thanks to your post, we really are going to "pass it on"!
Thanks again.
Rob

Thanks to all who contributed to this years Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and also to Ye Olde Buffalo Tavern, El Murphys and Dizzy Dolphin for having collection boxes in situ. Also a big thanks to Mr Clive Evans who organises everything around this in the Hua Hin Area.
Once again Hua Hin Ham & Bacon customers have been very generous and they kindly donated, a whopping, 24,083 baht of the 29,149 baht total, that was raised in the Hua Hin area.
Thanks for the continued year on year support for this worthy cause.

I think that's a great amount considering the relatively small size of the uk expat community in downtown HH, well done
When nosy expats ask how can i live here without working, i reply, 'well, while you worked hard for 50 years, i worked smart for 5 years'

^^^^^^^
Indeed it is, well done , my local butcher in the uk got under £400 this year, he was really disappointed.
