Is 14 nights in Hua Hin too long?
Re: Is 14 nights in Hua Hin too long?
Yes!
There are better beaches, clearer water, more younger and prettier women, more tourist attractions, better shopping, more beautiful scenery, better areas for nature, better areas for sport, better areas for photography, better places to learn about Thai art and culture, etc, in other parts of Thailand.
In other words, there's really no reason to go to Hua Hin at all unless you've seen and done everything else there is to do in Thailand. Hua Hin has a bit of everything, but the best of nothing, as far as Thailand goes.

whilst i agree with most of what you have said, just a couple of positive points for Hua Hin , we dont want people to get the wrong idea do we?
1. Best golf courses in Thailand
2. Lowest amount of rainfall in Thailand, great year round weather
3. Constantly rated in the top 10 locations in the world to retire, cost of living, health systems, climate etc
there are always prettier women, better beaches, etc no matter where you go, depends on your expectations and the quality of life you want to live, and your opinion of course:)

2. I like a little bit of rain every once in a while
3. I don't like being around crotchety old 'retirees' with more money than common sense.
Just felt like chiming in.

In my opinion the coastal areas/ beach cities here in Thailand are like a magnet for morons and mafia, and I'm talking about both Thai's and farangs.
And I am by no means saying that Bangkok is perfect, but it is a lot safer and saner than Pattaya for instance.
And I know for a fact that I am not the only one that feels that way.

Opinions are like armpits, everyone has them and most of the time they stink:)

Indeed. Which in my mind makes it a much better place to live than holiday in.hhfarang wrote:Hua Hin has a bit of everything, but the best of nothing, as far as Thailand goes.

Hhf, thank you for your efforts in deterring others from going to Hua Hin so that I can continue to enjoy the place in peace, I've just spent over five weeks there and had a great time!hhfarang wrote:Yes!

I am surprised at the hostility to Scandi tourists.I think they are great for HH. They cause no problems, eat and drink out a lot, speak excellent English and are very polite, very civilised visitors.
Re: Is 14 nights in Hua Hin too long?
My wife and I visited Hua Hin in 2011 for two weeks and decided to buy a house here at the end of the holiday; our first visit to Thailand. It seems to have enough tourists to make catering for them attractive without losing its culture and charm. It's not an island so deters most of the penniless gap-year students and is close enough to BKK to have a cosmopolitan feel. That Thais choose to holiday here must mean it's attractive as I've always thought it's a mistake to visit a place the locals avoid.
I don't witness any antagonism towards Scandinavian visitors and all of them I've met are most pleasant. October will be warm and most likely wet but you will not be bored and HH should give you a very good flavour of how Thailand is although I recommend hiring a care and getting out and about. Of course there are nay-sayers, people for whom HH held no charms or attraction - at least not wholesome ones - but quite literally "all life is here" so grab a spoon and dig in!

When I first read hhfarangs post about the mediocrity of HH, I thought, Oh justa rant by a guy who came--did not like and left. But on re-reading it I think he nailed it. HH is OK, no t a lot of negatives compared to other beach resorts but on the other hand nothing outstanding here.
Re: Is 14 nights in Hua Hin too long?
Thanks oakdale. That is the way I meant it. I was trying to give an honest opinion of Hua Hin vs other Thailand tourist destinations. I wasn't knocking it and still think it is one of the top places there to live for a long period of time, but not for a shorter tourist visit.oakdale160 wrote:When I first read hhfarangs post about the mediocrity of HH, I thought, Oh justa rant by a guy who came--did not like and left. One night is too long. Just came back - this is the _most_ boring place in Thailand and SE Asia that I have seen. Tons of old geezers, no parties, no young people, no beach, no nothing. Unless you play golf there is nothing to do. And I am not young and do not party. But it is fun to be around young folks and not half-dead Northern Europeans.
