Beach Walks - Now & Then

Post by Big Boy »

My car has been off the road recently, and I've started using my legs again. Believe it or not, I've been enjoying it. I've been thinking, where can I walk that Mrs BB won't want to come along  . I suppose the honest answer is anywhere, if it includes walking - she's Thai. I came to the conclusion, walking the beach was the best place to get some me time. I thought I'd re-do my walk from Takiab to Cha-Am in stages as I did about 5 years ago, but this time I will note differences between the original photos and now.

One thing I often think back to is the condo, just North of the airport. 5 years ago it had so many cracks, I thought it would collapse within 12 months. Did it? Is it still standing? Then there were the sea walls that were collapsing, and properties being corroded as a result. Did the owners re-build their walls, or has their very expensive beachfront property simply washed away. I will find it interesting, and I hope you guys will find it the same.

My plan is to start next week, but it will depend upon tides and weather. Watch this space....................

I will start with this one viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26405

Yes, I walk the beaches virtually every day when I'm here but always either Khao Tao, Khao Takiap or Hua Hin, or the whole way if I'm feeling energetic. I've never done much going the other way, towards Cha Am, so it will be interesting to see.

Since my biggest dog isn't allowed to walk too far, my beach visits have become infrequent. I will look forward to it, but especially on the beach to Cha-Am - I'm sure that will have changed a lot.

When I lived on Soi 16, I used to wander onto the beach by the Queen's park but I imagine you need to get the tide right to walk north because often the sea was almost right up to the steps there.

Yes, when I did the walk 5 years ago, there were several places that I had to do a bit of climbing to get through. Even the Hilton to Takiab stretch can get awkward. Best time is 3 hours after the tide has turned to go out, and you get firm sand to walk on.

I got to the beach at about 11:30 today and it seemed to be just after low tide. That bit towards Khao Takiap, I just wade through normally if the tides in but if it's too bad, I cut around the road for a bit.

When I did the walk about years ago, I was not allowed to get my leg wound wet. I won't have that restriction this time.

Did the owners re-build their walls, or has their very expensive beachfront property simply washed away.
That brought to mind the properties on the Norfolk coast. Whole village being lost to erosion.

As a regular beach walker I use the tide tables as published by the UK government - link below. Have fun!

There's no snow or ice forecast, coupled with a midday low tide, the adventure should start tomorrow.

No fool but the Englishman...............
