Punter a English term usualy in the south of the uk, but used allover the country for a CUSTOMER

Think it originally meant someone who bets then became part of London Underworld slang meaning customer of a prostitute and eventually spread just to mean customer. I occasionally worked as a chauffer punter which is something entirely different.
