I'll try to remember his face. Hope he's safe, older western guys seem to fall through the cracks easily in Thailand. :(

As I live alone, I have a buddy system with another older ex-pat loner. We phone each other at about 9 every morning, if no reply we investigate. One or two false alarms, uncharged phons is the main culprit, but ita worth the trouble.

That's good. Loneliness and financial worries are often killers. I know you have plenty of company though! :)

From Surf 102FM:
We can confirm today that Michael O'Brien has been found. He is being held in an immigration detention centre in Bangkok. He was picked up due to a 200+ day overstay. Sadly Mike apparently went quickly into Alzheimer's and this contributed to a series of problems, including not giving permission for the detention centre or the US Embassy to contact anyone. His family has been notified and is making plans to come over and take him back home.Thank you to everyone who has helped to try and track Michael.

Good news, Alzheimers is a horrible illness, I hope his family are quick to get him home.

Would be interesting to know how Immigration treat this, if the poor bugger has no recall of what he has said or done.

What doesn't read right to me is that I thought I'd read he has a wife and daughter here. To me it sounds as if other family are taking him to the States.

A point of order................... I see Surf 102.5 have edited their post and have replaced Alzheimer's with amnesia.

Would be a bit quick to diagnose Alzheimers I guess. Anyway he's been located and is safe which is all.
