Post by HuaHinR »

Alcoholics Anonymous meets Mon. at 7:00 PM, Tues., Thurs. Fri., Sat. & Sun. noon, all on the 17th floor of the Hilton Hotel. All meetings are "open" (for anyone interested) except Friday, which is "closed" (for AA members only).

Why is it called Alcoholics Anonymous when the first thing you do
is stand up and say, 'My name is Joe, and I am an alcoholic'?

Is there a free buffet and a happy hour ?

Sounds like a waste of good drinking time to me otherwise .

Also cannot fathom why any respectable workaholic would want to be enormous .

Me thinks HuaHinR's request would be filled to brimming with alcoholics were everyone honest. Trouble is what the hell would we do all day...?

Thanks for that information HHR, if it helps even one person, then great.
If you are that one person who is thinking about making the move to AA then please don't be put off by these self righteous people, making glib comments, it is only nervous laughter.
They may need to make a big decision one day and you'll be way ahead of them by then.
Good Luck. :D

"If you want to drink, that's your business. But if you want to stop drinking, that's our business." If you're enjoying your drinking, as we did for many years, great. But if it's no longer fun and is making your life worse, then it's a great place to find a solution. My suspicion is that those who go out of their way to mock, poke fun, etc. are whistling in the dark

Seems like most of the meetings are closed. Do i read that right closed as in not open to new members being invited. Not at all welcoming for prospective members in need of help??

The Difference Between Open and Closed A.A. Meetings

The purpose of all A.A. group meetings, as the Preamble states, is for A.A. members to "share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism." Toward this end, A.A. groups have both open and closed meetings.

Closed meetings are for A.A. members only, or for those who have a drinking problem and "have a desire to stop drinking."

Open meetings are available to anyone interested in Alcoholics Anonymous’ program of recovery from alcoholism. Nonalcoholics may attend open meetings as observers.

So I only see one OPEN meeting listed. Not very welcoming like I said, no outreach for the general community is not the Dr Bob I remember.
