I guess I'll start being an event and HHAD will accept everything promotion I post...wonderful!!!!!
I think that advertising posts should clearly identify that they are an advertisement as opposed to an item of discussion.
HHAD why don't you start listening to the people who respect your rules???????

I don't really know why you're getting on your high horse about this DM. It doesn't bother me if the grammar or spelling isn't 100%. I guess some people who write on here are not native speakers, and, goodness me, they might even be Thai! As long as I understand what they're promoting, which I did in the ad. I think that you're referring to, then I don't really care. Lighten up, mate :)

I agree with Dm to a certain point, they should get their sh** together on the presentation front.

I think there are a multitude of reasons why it would be useful if posters could get their grammar and punctuation right(not just on this subject, but in general) as it would help people understand what the hell is being got at and reduce misunderstandings.

Sponsors have even less of an excuse to 'screw it up' as they are trying to attract business. Be clear and unambiguous about it. Please try to avoid being repetitive and unriveting. 'Blowing your own trumpet' in a blatantly transparent and condesending/omnipitant way is most off-putting, especially if the post is linguistically flawed. Just appears wrong and farcical in my opinion gents. You will only 'show yourself up'.

Our rules generally apply to those that want to take advantage of this forum by plugging their own ventures for free and expecting to provide nothing in return. As stated, our sponsors look after us so we will them. Those that do not agree or have conflicting business issues should take their problems elsewhere - they will get no support from HHAD.

As stated in our T&C, we are not responsible for any posts made by members of this forum, sponsors or not.

Well SJ, yeah! Not one of my better posts, not sure why I actually posted it. Judgement is sometimes a bit off late on Saturday night.

Red, I'm amazed there wasn't more to be honest.

Suppose it was a bit too fiery and none of my business.

whilst i see the Mods point about sponsors I look on HHAD more as a virtual newspaper and pub table chat rather than a copy of Exchange and Mart....

how about this suggestion

advertising threads must start with AD: or Advert: and have thread titles that reflect the content....not abstract titles......

so, for example.... "AD: Pub Quiz December 25th"

As to spelling and grammar....well I write about 100 pages of text a month for the business back home. the bloke back there that does the editing has noted that since living here my language has morphed into Tinglish.....so maybe us residents are starting to loose our grip on the mother tongue. Maybe its because this is also a board where a lot of the members speak and write english as a second language.....

spelling and grammar can go stuff....its content that counts

Good idea.
Or how about certain establishments save up all their adverts and post them all in one go at the end of the day in one post, rather than on an hourly basis ?

I don`t agree that grammar and spelling can `go stuff`. I`m sure we have all seen lessening of standards of English over the years to the point where some young people can only communicate in text speak, an almost alien language for some of us. It seems much of the world is keen to learn English as their second language whilst some native English speakers just don`t care.

my point was that I dont come on here to read great examples of english literature or debate....this is a sort of a pub table chat with some newspapers and "who knows where I can get this" discussions.

The Exchange and Mart angle....or more like blitzkrieg advertising of some sponsors...puts me off and pisses me off when ad posts are given obscure headers.

Criticizing posts for their spelling or grammar is just pedantic and puts posters off.... that's a fact and I have PMs from some members who have felt they get a slating just because they spelled words wrong or phrased a sentence incorrectly.

chill mateys.....its the words that come out of a mouth that are important...not the shiny even teeth and fragrant breath.

It does seem to be turning into BBAD on here and makes less than riveting reading sadly, is huahin really devoid of anything else to talk about?

Apparently it was spelt that way between the Norman Conquest and the latter part of the fifteenth century, but I wouldn’t have thought that Buffalo Bills was that old!
Incidentally, in my home town of Nottingham we have ‘Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Inn’ which can get away with this kind of spelling as it’s been there since 1189.
