And then I 'read the replies' rather than scanning them and...
and I never saw any of the pop-ups during the HuaHinForum trial period
makes me look like an idiot...

In addition to pop-up advertising I also dislike some google ads which appear within actual posts using the same or similar layout and font style.
It's even more intrusive than pop-ups and becomes irritating to try and distinguish between where the ad starts/ends and the post content.
The intention is, of course, to try and make you read the ad rather than ignore it if it was placed at the top of the page or sidebar.
That other well-known forum uses it and I noticed that from today they have become somewhat more competitive regarding HH.

PLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSE! NOOO!

Have you seen the responses on that forum? You have about a 50 post gap until you are replied to (okay that just happens with forums as they grow I guess) but, there is about a 0.10 % average of posters that can use the English language in some literate manner - the rest seem to have some retardation of some sort which blocks ther ability to type sentences in the correct structure.

I

Due to higher overheads of running the forum we will be increasing the presence of Google Adsense. The ads will run as the second post of every thread for a trial period starting next week, if they prove successful (as they do on other large Thailand forums) they will remain in place. We thank you for your understanding, hope they will not prove to be too intrusive, and would be very grateful if they were clicked now and then!

We will also be increasing the prices of the advertorials to 500 baht per month - which is still a giveaway for the amount of exposure they provide.

They are by their very nature intrusive, which is one of a number of reasons why I don't use the other forum. Sorry, but I won't be clicking on them.
This is the way

In many other forums, you have the posibility of a small donating in exchange for an addfree user account... Could that be an option here as well ?

Lev,

As a matter of interest, I just clicked on a couple of those Ads on the side bar.
The first one was advertising Free Modular Kitchen and led me to a company in Pune, India.
The second one was for an Italian restaurant in Dubai.
Neither of much interest to most of the users on here.

I am not a geek and have little understanding of how these things work.
But is there no way we can have ads with a bit more "relevance" to Hua Hin?
Then people might be inclined to "click".

Hi Bonnielass
There are many things which decides the content of the adds, but on the following link you have a possibility to decide what adds you prefer shown in your browser.

We'll certainly look into that option also, thanks for your feed back.

The ads are usually relevant to the content on the page (the topic), your country, and your browsing preferences if you have a Google account or have allowed them to follow you around the internet. At the moment we see ones for Agoda and Air Asia.
