A big big big thanks to Jan and Hanneke Van Der Linde from Holland who generously donated this complete system:

There is also a steel computer desk/table that I couldn't fit in the car so if anyone has time to pick it up from Tira Tiraa condo reception and take it to the Crepes & Cruises restaurant it will also be appreciated.

We are now installing the software and will shortly have two complete systems and a printer to go. Thanks for the offer to collect and deliver Barry, will update here when ready to go.

Ok we now have two complete systems ready to go, a Pentium 4 2.4GHz with 256Mb RAM and a Pentium 3 1GHz with 512Mb RAM. Both systems have been optimised and installed from scratch.

We need help with the delivery to Pranburi. Barry, does your offer still stand?

Of course it does - where do you want us to pick it up?
We will then take it to the orphanage and set everything up - and take a few pics with the happy new owners...

Hello everyone,

Here a short message. We like to thank buksida for picking up my computer fro donation to the orphange. And off course we like to thank the people who updated the sofware and are going to take these computers to the orphanage. Hope the children will learn how to use a computer and can use these skills in their future.

See you in Hua Hin next time. Jan and Hanneke van der Linde

Nice to see and the next time I'm back from a Khon Kaen visit I'll be armed with 2 laptops for donation.

I was having a late breakfast in Lins and chatting to the bosses Lin and Richard and they were astonished when the orphanage (16 of them) turned up for a farang breakfast.

They of course responded with a good feed at a good price and ice-cream for the kids

How is the Orphanage funded as a matter of interest? Do they good schooling and the opportunity to better their lives in the outside world?

Both Buksi and Barry know I tried to organise a clown entertainment day for them but it was financially not feasible. If we had got some good financial pledges then it would have been a flier. Maybe at some stage I'll try again if I can get some financial backers

Being a child from a poor background in Thailand is hard enough. Being an orphan must be be more difficult

The computers have now been collected and should be in place by now, thanks for your efforts Barry. A couple of photos will follow.

If anyone has anything else less than 4-5 years old, in working order, with power adapters if necessary, please drop it at the HHHB shop on Soi 41 so we can get cracking on the next one.

We still have a few bits such as mainboards and CPUs but need essentials like Thai keyboards, mice and monitors. There is a huge box of stuff that is no longer functioning (or has no power adapters) so that will be donated to the local Soi 'rag n' bone' woman for recycling.

Ok, the 2 latest computers have been delivered and are up & running - see below

Juk finishes setting them up and then the kids are allowed to try them out.

They particularly enjoyed the Encarta for Kids program.

They now have 8 working computers, though about 3 of them are so old and slow that they are not really much use any more.

Also, they have only 1 x 4-port router and ideally would like to have all their computers on a home network so they can all access the Internet.

So any advice or offers of help in this regard would be much appreciated.

By the way, does anyone know if there's a Thai version of Encarta for Kids - this would be really great for the younger ones as a learning tool.

Thanks a million to all those who have donated equipment, time and energy to this project. :thumb:

Hi Barrys,

A great thing your doing for these unfortunate kids.

Looks like you need to find a hub to extend the ports available.

Do you have any more projects, as I'm in Hua Hin a lot with pleny of spare
time on my hands, and wouldn't mind getting involved ?

An 8 or 16 port network hub/switch is required - I have a spare one here but it is only 4 ports so not much use to them. Will also need a fair bit of CAT5 cable and LAN cards in each machine (if they don't already have them).

I'll have a look online for Thai Encarta or some equivalent software.

I just spoke to our IT guy.
Assuming that an ADSL or similar connection is available he recommended to use a router plus a switch with x extensions.
Can anyone confirm what connection is available there recently?

Do you have use for a motherboard ASUS P5KSE (approx 3 years old)?
I have 2 elder PCI LAN cards here which i could bring. You could try if they work with the system there, if not trash them.

I have a canon pixma all in one if you want it and a base unit pc that needs the hard drive backing up and clearing. I do not have the relevant cables but do have some portable hard drives. If someone can help me with the backup and erasing of my data you are welcome to both.
