Camera and photography thread
Re: Camera thread
Unfortunately not mine although I am seriously considering one. 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lens as a package for 25k. Both lenses Nikkor. Bargain IMHO.Will put it through the paces over the next few days.

I've been using a Panasonic GF-1 with legacy lenses for almost twelve months and can highly recommend this format (Micro 4/3rds)STEVE G wrote:Do any of you camera buffs have any thoughts on these new 4/5's cameras that have recently emerged?
I would like something better than the compact I have now but I don't want to walk around with an large DSLR looking like a member of the paparrazi.
I was looking in a shop at the Sony NEX-5 the other day and it looks very nice, is it any good?
The IQ compares easily with my Canon EOS 5D MK11 and L glass
Via various adapters pretty much all my Leica, Contax, Schneider and Nikon lenses work great albeit manual focus only.
first shot Kern-Switar C mount 75mm f1.9
second shot Contax Zeiss 90mm F2.8
third Nikon 50mm F1.4 Ais

All nice pics!!
Not to veer off your tests Crazy, but I am a novice with a simple point and shoot now. I'd like to bump up a few notches, so as you gentlemen discuss the details beyond me, any thoughts as to a good, quality camera to work with is appreciated!!

Re: Camera thread
Why not this camera
Get the kit 20mm f1.7 (40mm equivalent in 35mm format)
Screaming sharp lens
And very capable in near darkness with beautiful bokeh (out of focus)

I've been looking at the various Panasonic G series cameras recently and I'm thinking of heading in that direction now so it's good to see your recommendation.I've been using a Panasonic GF-1 with legacy lenses for almost twelve months and can highly recommend this format (Micro 4/3rds)
As I'm just a casual photographer, there are a couple of models that fit into the sort of price range that I was considering.
Re: Camera thread
Great low light shots there fb, looking to get a new lens and am now considering a low light one as I've never tried it because my current lens is an f4.5 so I need the tripod and a fiddle with the shutter settings. Is there a big difference between the f1.4 and f1.8 (apart from double the price), these are my two thoughts:

Re: Camera thread
The 1.4 has a good reputation for sharpness, contrast and colour rendition and would be my choice assuming a 50mm focal length is what you seek.
The difference between f1.4 and f1.8 is a gain of 2/3rds of a stop i.e. More light gathering, brighter viewfinder and shallower depth of field for differential focusing. I would also assume the 1.4 has has a smoother bokeh. For me, these are big enough gains to warrant the extra cost.
Focusing at 1.4 is an art in itself - very shallow dof. Practice needed here.
My Canon 24mm and 50mm lenses, both f1.4, are my night time walkabout lenses.

Retired now, just meander around shooting whatever I see of interest. As such I hang around the streets!richard wrote:That last pic made me realise why I live in Thailand

As for the makeup: I doubt I'll ever be lucky enough to find out!

Great shots really sharp. Good glass really is a good investment.
