Is there any Internet worth hooking up to?

Post by Pundi64 »

I read everything about all the cons, unfavorable so called DSL Internet hook-ups in Hau Hin, or Thailand as a whole.
Are there any so called DSL hook-ups, phone line or better yet satalite ISP servers, in Thailand?
I think the only thing that compares to "real" DSL speed is Satalite, though expensive, at least you can surf the Internet like a real DSL should go, smooth, fast, and reliable.
Bottom line anything worth going with?

No need for ALL CAPS, its the internet equivalent of SHOUTING!

In short answer no, you're not going to get western standards of technology and connections in Thailand.

It all depends on your needs though and unless you're up and downloading constant streams of data then you don't need an 8 Gigabit line.

With the packages here if you pay peanuts (790 baht a month) you will get a package that is slower than dialup. If you pay between 1,500 and 3,000 you'll get something a lot more reliable.

Remember though there are many factors, not just the service from the ISP. Consider the quality of your phone line, distance from town, grounding of your hardware, quality of your router/modem, speed of your computer and efficency of your software. All of these can hinder connection speed.

Hi there.

TT&T do in fact have satellite broadband connection.
Something they call Star Connext Hi-speed internet via IPSTAR.
The advertisement say it's 5 times faster download time than dial-up.
It's designed for less than 5 users.
2.500/month.

But....as buksida points out, ADSL or internet connection in Thailand is not comparable with western standard. No way!!!
I'm sure that anyone who swallow this bait will go mad with frustration due to a halt in communication, system failure/breakdown or any possible lack of contact with the satellite.
But, it's up to you to be the unfortunate guinea pig.
I intend to live forever - so far so good.
